CLOSED: Who am I?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I found this worm crawling on the sidewalk tonight. I'd sure like to know what it is. I put him in a flower bed and hope it isn't something I will regret. He is as big around as my index finger and about as long.

cool find Shirley.I believe it is an Imperial moth ready to go pupate. He won't be harming your plants. It eats assorted tree leaves. Please put it in a container of clean dirt to pupate over winter or turn it loose

He is in the flower bed. I'm sure he can dig in easily there. Thanks Donna. I don't think I've ever seen one of those moths.

What a beaut! This link says the cat can get as big as hotdogs!
