Been waiting only 3 years for this one.. I hope I can stay awake to see them..even if I have to stay awake all night..lol. I brought the tubers that I started from seeds in 2004 in CA and finally getting some buds..
anyone have flowers to show, i'd love to see them. It has actually been a little over three years.
I. macrorhiza BUDS!!!
Wow. You are the patient one!
I guess I ought to start my seeds now, then!
Flowers are supposed to be pink, right?
I think so.. man, it was a long wait too. Now if only I could get I. andersonii to get a move on it..lol. it too is in shock from the move.

Thanks Ron,
I'll go check it out..
A.
You know, I believe I got my seeds from Seedpicker.. and it looks like my buds have a couple of weeks to go before blooming. I can hardly wait too.
Thanks for the link.
A.
Well, you've lasted this long. Did you put yours in the ground after the move, or are you keeping it in a pot? If so, which size pot?
Nichole
They are in pots, one root in each one three plants (three gallon pots), during the winter, I kept them close to the walls of the house, but this year, maybe I'll spoil them..lol.. then again, maybe not.. they made me wait this long. It does say in the plantfiles that they are quite hardy, so they may do alright in the ground, but I won't chance it till after they bloom..
edited to add there are three plants (I did lose three others)

Are the blooms on this vine the same size as the Giant White Moonflowers?
The blooms are about 4" in diameter...
Thanks Ron. I wondered because they do look smaller than the GMV. Still a very nice size and a lovely color! I can't believe that some cultivars take that long to bloom! Most I've grown have bloomed in 6 weeks!!
Becky - Some of the perennials are geared towards a different long term survival strategy which involves making sure that they have a very developed storage root first(!) before they will utilize any 'extra' energy to developing flowers...
Feed these plants well to assist in the rapid enlargement of the perennial storage root...

Ron
Thanks Ron! Are these perennial vines? I thought all MGs were annuals.
Oh Becky.... have you heard that song "You Ain't Seen Nothin yet?" there is a whole other world of MGs.. the Perrenial ones.. boy are you going to be in for a shock. I know I was.
Really????!!! Now ya got my attention!!! Do tell! Are the perennials the ones that are banned in some states??? LOL!
Do any of these perennials have a scent. I know the Moonvines do!
When you look in the PlantFiles on the main entry page(for any entry) the 1st detail on the upper left is :
Category
and if the person has set this detail correctly (if that detail is known) it should specify as to whether the plant is an annual or a perennial...

Ron
I have this one that I just started from seed this year. Looks like I'll have a long wait!
Oh! I am soooo embarrassed!
Ron - I never even noticed that the plants were listed as annual or perennials on PlantFiles! How embarrassing that I never paid attention to that nice little detail right there at the top of the plant description. Well, duh ..... (sigh)
OHHHH, my macrorhiza is so small compared to yours!
oh, boy, it's been a long wait.. I hope to catch it in bloom..if I miss it, I'll cry..
YAY!!! Congrats on the new blooms! Beautiful!!! I hope they produce seeds and continue to put on a show for you!
congrats A.
Thanks Becky and Marie,
Marie, you were right about the time too.. I am hoping that the other two plants do something..
A.
Congrats, A! Luv the flower and the leave.
:) Donna
Thank you Donna.
YW. Hopefully one day I can find some seeds.
:) Donna
Donna, if these make seeds, I'll save you some.. I sure hope they bloom some more now that I know how to hand pollinate..
A.
That would be wonderful!
Thanks!!
