We have two of these (what are they?) clinging to a tree...they have no innards. What happened, did they morph or were they victims? Thank you!

Thank you so much. We have plenty of cicada here but we rarely see them and I have never come upon the shells before. The link is really great with the time release photos of a molting cicada!
