Yep, Shar. You are teaching me more every single day. Somedays it is obvious to me that I could be considered "The Ugly American" as a lot of other countries see us. Because I have always had, I need to be reminded of those who don't. Not meaning to sound so maudlin. Some reminders are necessary to help us be better.
Oh how I miss my delightful Mangosteens
Silly person...I was not inferring that you had anything to be maudlin about! Just kinda laughing at my own situation. As Americans, we are definately spoiled. But to give you an example. My DD is trying to put these adorable ladybug costumes together for DGD's birthday party. I have a glue gun, but the only glue sticks on island are much too big for it, and there are no glue guns available that fit those sticks! We love our little Kwajical Kingdom...yes we do!
I have no less than 4 sizes of glue guns and probably 6 sizes of glue sticks.....disgusting, is it not.....a Michael's on every corner.....or a Wallyworld (which I hate, BTW).
Now there ya go...another place I gotta hit on the trip home, Michael's or Hobby Lobby. I can see the trail of packages flying through the sky twixt Colorado and Kwaj....luckily JB will be doing just as much shopping as I will!

Sorry you don't have your peaches any more but ...don't you look forward to the different things in the different seasons?....in two months we will have our lovely...stone fruit....coming in ....that is just about the only thing we don't have all year round......and they always are very special because of that....maybe some peach cobbler made from the sorry "tinned" ones will have to do.......LouC you could never be ugly
and just in case you'd like to know we consider America as a big brother to us.......and England is the Nanny ! :)
How I wish I could, dearheart....but obligations beckon. We are now in a tug of war about Thanksgiving. And they wonder why we don't come home more often ....gee....I wonder! Made the mistake of mentioning that we were going to be in the States for a week or so before we get to Colorado, and now I'm getting grief about that. But my dad is nearly 90, and not in the best of health. So I am going to visit with him and my mom, and the Colorado contingent can just wait! I am so glad that I have you and Mike, between my folks and my kids, and then Carol at the end ....little islands of peace between chaos!
Chrissy, I love it! If you meant Big Brother as is the cool dude you always wanted to show off to your friends, they one who helped with homework, but swore if you told anyone he'd cover you with honey and set you in the ant hill, the one who put gecko tails in your sleeping bag, but then let you sleep in his cuz you couldn't stop shuddering....that big brother? What a complement! But if you meant Orwell's Big Brother....I am so sorry!!!!! Please forgive, we are NOT all like that, honest!!!

I have been in and out trying to clean up in my jungle ...been sconed twice by huge chokos ...direct thuds to the head!!! ha ha ha....anyway going out tomorrow hubbys birthday....coming back to the tropics with some ozzy type photos Sat.....Thurs here ...bright hot and sunny! see the jungle at the side...you can't see them but there is a peach tree and three huge camelias....and lots of other stuff.....scary trying to clean it out alone!

YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!!
I was waiting for the local interisland flight to go to Honolulu when I saw a fellow (now retired) from the Ag. Experimental Station where they grow MANGOSTEEN!!! YES!!!! And we sat together while he told me of the HUGE harvest he had from his TWO trees at his house...and...in fact...had a bag of them in his suitcase (also going to HNL to visit his brother). Well...he gave me TWO huge Mangosteens and before I went thru inspection for my mainland flight I went into the restroom and wolfed them down...moaning in pleasure, juice all over my hands...had to rip them open with my fingers!!!!
SO...next year (it is past season almost) I will have boxes of Mangosteens and can sneak some out ...but don't tell anyone but 500 of your closest friends!!!!
OH...I can't wait for NEXT year!!!!
