I picked up some lilies at a couple of bucks each since the tags had been lost. (The owner's young grandsons may be responsible.) All that was know was that it was an oriental. One of them blossomed and is almost fluorescent pink. I'd love to be able to put a name on it.

Yes....that is pollen. I thought that just in case it might be fertile that I would help it out. My guess is no. The petals have all dropped off and the pistil remains very slender.
I can't remember what the orange/red, raised bumps on the petals are called. I love the texture.
Papillae. :)
Thank you!
Moby, that is what I thought too.

Aren't great minds great? ;)
What else did you get, Marie?
Wow, you guys are really good. :) Marie, you have to come to next years Iowa Round-up!!

I've got two others, but it doesn't look like I'll get any blooms this year. They are puny.....but were cheap. Their tags also say just 'Oriental'.
And you can still come to the one in MN..... in 2 weeks!
I am coming! Maxine is letting me hitch a ride with her and Archie!
Cool!!!!!
Just paying her back for my ride to Madison!!

Hmmmm, in two weeks, eh? probably not going to happen for me... FPP is setting in...
Frozen Plasma Pain?
Close, Fall Planting Panic... and with that comes Frozen Plasma Pain...
I will probably have a severe case of FPP by then as well. We can hold each other's hand and be sympathetic of each other's anguish over the sad state of affairs in our gardens.
Yep, that's what happens to me! I waste time being totally disorganized and all of a sudden frozen tundra is upon me and then I get FPP.
If we have an early winter, I am doomed.
