Poppyless in Seattle (well, Woodinville, really)

Lovely photo! It will get us through winter! Everyone ready for the wind storm that is allegedly coming tomorrow?

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

yes & no & (sigh), is it really mid-October?
And if not a windstorm tomorrow, there is sure to be at least one lurking in the shadows of November & December.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

"Allegedly". One can always hope!! I have a split fir leaning into a mature maple towards the house. Fingers crossed that the maple can support it one more time . . .

Well, if we have one, I'll talk to you when the power comes back on.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

I hope we all fair well today I wouldn't mine losing a couple of Alders but only if they fall across the road then I would have a accuse not to go to work. " Ha like that would happen" can only dream, I hate those trees. But with my luck they would fall the other way a just make a mess of the yard.
The only Tree I worry about is my very old Maple (not the pretty ones) this thing is huge if it goes it will take out my pump house so By BY water.

Hope everyone is batten down, I heard on the news that it will hit carol's area frist. but that was at 11: am. on the 17th have not heard the news since. They also said to make sure the aminals have a safe place to go.

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Wow, I'll be thinking of you (I have to say it is one of those crisp, clear, blueblue autumn days today - gorgeous) and not a leaf moving.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Laurie Hi What time is it there. Just posted more pics in trip to Lewis

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

16:40 (that's 4:10 P.M.).

Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

It's windy here, how is it where you (all) are? It's not raining tho - I opened all the windows upstairs to air out the bedrooms - the wind will do that Quickly today!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Its been pouring here all day and the wind is just starting to pick up. Hope i dont lose power. have a generatior so that helps.

61 degrees, no rain, the trees are dancing to the music in a very big way!! Lots of gusts, the pond is a mess but no big deal there. My only client this evening had to reschedule so I get to stay home and watch the show.

Oakland, OR(Zone 8a)

The wind is just starting here near Roseburg. We have had some showers, but no steady rain yet. The hatches are as battened down as we can manage - just hope the plants have learned to swim if we get too much rain. Dotti

I'm setting at my desk and just cracking up watching my puppy "Tyler" out the window. A gust of wind would blow the leaves around and he tears up the drive barking at them, then struts back down like he just chased the boogy man away.
to funny.
looking at all those leaves I wish I had a giant vacuum and suck them up. I just hate raking.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Oooo but I'll bet you love the compose you can get from those leaves! They make a giant vacuum thing, I saw it but ... who wants to spend $300 for leaf vacuum!!! LOL... Would a shop vac work?

Puppies and kitties, they play soooo hard and are simply too much fun to watch! ALMOST makes me want one --- then good sense kicks in! I'm gone too much and on the road frequently.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

No shop vac won't work these are giant maple leaves, that's why I was dreaming. but $300 is a little much for me my black lab "Esther" just cost me $700 and we still don't know whats wrong. guess I will just have to do it the old fashion way,,, Rake em
And yes puppies and kittens also cost, but they are my babies. have 2 dogs and 4 cats and also 2 birds.
This is Esther

Hmmm, Katie's not around - hope she's ok, and that her maple held up the leaning fir.
We were not hit hard - just gusted like crazy off & on - I actually went out & dug holes for some shrubs! Of course, once I got into it, it started to pour. Like always, so what did i expect?

Tilly - your Esther looks like a true buddy! She's got a sweet face. I'll be raking with you! the leaf piles no longer exist. So, I get to do it again.
I heard that tomorrow is another storm, but milder winds. Didn't someone commission some fairies for weather-fixing purposes?
Well - where the heck are they? Slacking off a bit, imho...

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I dunno, maybe she used too many fairies?

It looks like it mostly bypassed me (so far, anyhow). I've had some gusts of wind and rain, of course, but nothing dramatic like all of you have been dealing with.

That is a great picture of Esther-perfect lab picture...

I commissioned the fairies to protect my trees and home, and those of my neighbors. So far, they are doing good work!
I was out gardening during the storm - I completely trust the fairies - putting stuff that I got at Dragonfly farms into the ground and dividing some iris. When the big gusts came I just scampered underneath the eaves of the house to watch. It's so wierd how the trees will be completely still, then a big gust will come and they start going nuts. Most of the leaves on the bigleaf maple are on the ground now.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh - Esther is a sweetie-pie! I'm glad Tyler could save you from those big scary leaves. lol - our cat Tiger was in the backyard all "crackerdogs" (this is what we say for frisky - crazy at our house) chasing the invading leaves - very fun to watch.

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

The wind started her at 11:30 and lasted until 4:30. Power flickered twice, just enough so I had to reset the clocks and the oven (was cooking a roast.) Today I will be out collecting limbs/branches and adding them to the "to be chipped pile." I have empty pots that got blown all over the yard as well. Fortunately we didn't loose any trees. Glad to hear that everyone got through the wind unscathed :0)

Our dog Cinder likes to bark at the wind!

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Anyone heard from Murmur?

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Laurie, thanks for asking! No problems here - we lost power for maybe 45 minutes which surprised the heck out of us as our island generally gets more wind than most places and we lose power for longer periods of time. I just got home from work and am ready to do NOTHING except whatever I want for the rest of the day!!! Well, mostly anyway.

Dotti, what about you? Did the storm hit your area?

Oakland, OR(Zone 8a)

Oh, yes. We have a carpet of leaves - mostly big leaf maple, but some oak mixed in. It's still raining and has been doing so since last evening with no inclination of stopping. There is still a breeze, but at least my Pomeranian doesn't look at me as if I was crazy when I ask him to go out. (He sure acted as if I had lost my mind last night-wonder if he was afraid of being blown away) :)
Dotti

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

LOL - Dotti, sounds like one smart little doggie to me!!!

Oakland, OR(Zone 8a)

Yup! He is, considering the wind was close to 50 MPH at times and he weighs somewhat less than l0 Lbs. But then I weight a great deal more and I didn't go outside either. LOL Dotti

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Ya, I hate to say Dottie.. but the dog MIGHT have had better judgement than you last night! (poor little 10 pound dog... ;-) )

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Just think ALLTHOSE LEAVES and all at once to boot.
I lost power for about 30 min. and no losses. I'll be raking on sunday.Hope the weather will let me havent seen the news yet.
I knew it was bad out side because I have never had all the cats in my bed at once.

Oakland, OR(Zone 8a)

LOLROTF It won't be the first time I've been told that!
Dotti

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Dotti, do you have a picture of your pup to share?

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

don't pomeranian's usually look like they have the wind behind them? Or am I thinking of another breed.

Murmur - glad to hear you got away with just 45 mins. - AND still get to do nothing! Win Win situation.

Oakland, OR(Zone 8a)

Yes I do, and as soon as I can get my scanner working again I'll be glad to post a copy. As I tell him frequently, I think he's the most beautiful dog in the world. You know, the same thing everyone says to and about their animals. He appears happy to hear that but feels that food of almost any kind is better. LOL Dotti

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Just checking in . . . didn't lose power, but it flickered a couple times. Unusual for us, since we usually lose power before the storms hit and get it after. I think we must have been part of the $2M that PSE spent improving things since the last storm. Thank you, PSE.

I did, however, lose Internet, but after much rebooting of modems and routers and my machine, I'm back!!

I thought the wind was really warm during the storm - and in the middle there were blue skies. Really different. I hear that the storm didn't follow "usual" storm rules, so they had some trouble predicting where the center was and when it would start or stop. I heard that Sammamish got some heavy wind early in the morning before the storm was supposed to be here.

My trusty "Ents" protected the house pretty well. I never cease to be amazed at (and respect) their ability to move with the wind. It was impressive. I think my leaning tree has completely committed to support from the Maple and isn't coming down without help, so that's a relief. And now I think it's on the other side of another fir that's close to the house, so we're safe from any imminent danger.

My maples leaves are only about 1/2 down and I'm resisting the urge to start gathering. I really want to have to do the big job only once, so I'm going to wait a little longer before gathering them. Too bad, since the weather's been okay, here.

Tilly, your pup's darling!!
