David Liddle hoyas

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I just got off the phone ( and am posting this at her request) with Sara and the David Liddle hoyas arrived at her house today. She had everything ready to go and even missed her lunch hour to get our hoyas re boxed and out to us on time. Everyones box was mailed out today and you should be on the lookout for them to start arriving by the weekend!!!

Thank you Sarah and David!
Can't wait for the box. Did you ever notice that when it rains it pours? I either have no new hoya prospects or am expecting three or four packages at once.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Same here.

I just got that box from Carol, received some trade plants today,am expecting more tomorrow, got some coming in from Paul Shirley any day now,DL's are on the way, Sara and I just did a trade and I got some other trade plants a few days ago and I have plants on the way from T.G.

So all combined by the time they get here I should have somewhere around 30 new hoyas!!!

Hello everyone!! Yeeee Hawwwww! Everything in my bag looked good! Very firm, healthy and fresh. I have my own hoyas to root, and am "baby sitting" hoyas for Eddie from epiforum, as he is currently out of town, so I am finally getting around to updating....

David, thank you for getting the word out on the arrival...

I have started a new job (Monday and Tues were preservice days, and today was day 1), so I had notes ALL OVER my house, and pre-arranged for my mail carrier to leave hoyas inside, and she did, she even locked up behind her, AND signed for the package, so that it did not stay at the post office overnight.

I took some pictures of mine and Eddie's hoyas - all but 3 were long enough for multiple cuts, and only 2 were yellow, but still very healthy.

Please contact me for your del. confirmation number if you would like, or if it seems they haven't gotten to you in a timely fashion. Our hoyas left David Liddle on the 21st, were in customs on Thurs, so all in all a fairly timely turnaround.

Thank you guys,
Sara

Cindy, be sure to check your bag, your kanyakumariana is in with the general hoya population, and I didn't have time to label it, and still get back to work on time, but it is in there.

Thanks, Sara! Good job! I'll be on the lookout for my package!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

OOOH!!!! I cant wait to get mine... I hope that H. darwinii is at least 5ft long!!!!!!

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Ummmmm David, Ted sent 2 darwinii cuttings, one was about five feet long, one was only 2 nodes. Unfortunately the two node darwinii cutting was the one labeled Elliott.......better luck next time.

I just received an email from David Liddle. He says that he will be sending the invoices tomorrow, and that much of the success of the cuttings lies in the material he cuts. I will be sending a huge "thank you" his way, as I am sure that our extremely smooth experience had everything to do with his diligence and meticulous exporting methods.

this batch came today as well and are from the Netherlands. included in this set of cuttings is what is supposed to be a red clone of H. heuschkeliana. I already have the pink and yellow forms so it'll be interseting to see when this one blooms if it is actually red or just a lighter pink.

From what I can see in the picture of the blooms on the site from which I ordered it it does appear to be a dark red flower.

Shouldn't take to long, heuschkeliana can't seem to wait to bloom. Looking forward to pictures.

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Ooooooh, dmichael ... I am so glad those ones from the Netherlands made it!!! Meanwhile, I really can't wait to see the red heuschkeliana! What others did you get from Paul?

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

Ann the top batch is what you sent.

This is what I got from Paul:::::
lacunosa borneo---looks just like the old reliable lacunosa but with a red center.
minahassae-GPS 8816
heuschkeliana red-GPS 3323
sp. Sarawak-GPS 10073
sp. Sulawesi-GPS 8830

It took exactly 1 week from the time he shipped them for me to get them and they look like he just cut them and handed them to me.They werent overly expensive either. The price in euros was 33.50 which is the equivalent of $46.99 U.S. $$$$ and that included S&H.

That's about $9.40 per cutting which isnt bad and like I said they are so firm and healthy it's almost like they were cut today and I have very good luck rooting his stuff. Last year I purchased 9 hoyas from him and all 9 rooted and are growing nicely except for the H. clemensiorum which rooted well but struggled to stay alive until it finally bit the dust a few weeks ago.

I suppose it's too early, but anyone get their package yet?

Waterville, VT(Zone 4b)

I'm kind of anxious myself. I'm hoping that the package will get to me by Saturday and does not get hung up on Labor Day, not getting to me until Tuesday afternoon.

Prescott, AZ

Does it seems like the mailman takes forever when your expecting a box? Can't wait to see all of your hoya babies. As soon as you start posting your pictures, I will have a huge fight with myself as to why I didn't place a fall order.

Alamogordo, NM(Zone 7b)

Yay!!!
I just now got mine! They all look very big and healthy!
The 1590 aff clandestina leaves are HUGE.
I have to match up the numbers with the names to see who is what.
Thank you Sara for taking the time to do this for us. You are a sweetie!

Forget my Labor Day worst case scenario. I just got my package!!!

Doug

P.S. Thanks again Sara!!

I just got mine tooooo! Thank you so much Sara! Mine are soaking in a little tub now with some Eleanor's. The Tanna Island looks a little weak, but it's a long enough cutting I should be able to do something with it. Everything else looks great! I'll post pics tomorrow.
Thank you again Sara!

Mine came a little while ago too. Pentaphlebia is yellow, & one leaf broken, but should be fine. I'm happy. Thankyou, Sara for the kanyakumariana cutting. I can't wait to get them rooting. Don't know what to soak them in. Don't have any Eleanor's. What else works? Anyone????I'm checking the forum now.

Whitestone, NY(Zone 7a)

YAY!! I just got my cuttings! Thanks for such an excellent packing job Sara!
The cuttings are mostly very healthy. Some yellowed leaves and some that look dry, but for the most part they are very healthy.

The sizes of the cuttings are very generous, and I even have some peduncles on H. callistophylla, H. lambii, and H. kanyakumariana. I hope I get blooms soon!!

I have Eleanor's, but I have been soaking my cuttings in Superthrive lately. My cuttings are soaking in the tub now. How long do you guys leave your cuttings to soak for before potting them up?

Here's what I got (gonna leave out the IML numbers):
H. australis 'Brookfield'
H. archboldiana (IML 0414-the one with white flowers I think)
H. cagayanensis
H. callistophylla
H. coriacea
H. erythrostemma
H. kanyakumariana
H. lambii
H. odorata
H. pottsii 'Budabadoo'
H. subcalva
H. thomsonii
H. waymaniae

And here's one more pic I took. Speaking of veining!! This is H. callistophylla.
Thanks again Sara!!

Gabi, That H. lambii leaf is the biggest I've ever seen. These are my cuttings soaking for one hour in Superthrive.

These are my cuttings two hours after having received them. I wanted to wait a little longer, but I'm going away for the weekend and wanted to take care of them. I used the same method on all the cuttings that I got from Carol, and had 100% success.

WHOAA, looks like Sara did an awesome job brokering this consignment! Did you really get all those boxes out in one hour? Please send me some of that energy!

Gabi, your cuttings are awesome! I usually let imported cuttings sit in water/superthrive over night, re-cut the stems and let the stems sit in the same water mix (in a dark area) for a few days. I then strike them and gradually move them into increased light. OR, I let them soak overnight and can't manage to wait to play with them. Regardless, gradually acclimating them from the dark box to a light area is always a good thing.

Tami, what were we thinking? I am feeling some pangs of regret for sitting this one out.

Shelburne Falls, MA(Zone 5a)

Got mine today. Thank you Sara!! I'm so happy :)))))

YES!! So glad that things moved quickly! Looks like there are still 7 boxes not accounted for - I shipped out 15 on Wed., and am waiting for word to ship out Eddie's.

Thanks Mel, actually, not to brag, but my lunch is 1 hour, with a 10 minute turn around, to and from work. I had about 45 minutes to unbox David Liddle's boxes, and rebox every one's cuttings. I stacked them up, and my friend who has gone in on every order, picked them up at 2:00 pm, and had them shipped by 3:00 on Wednesday, so it was a bit of a tag- team effort.

Shoot Gabi, I could have sent you the kanyakumariana, and then you could have gotten something different. I am glad every ones cuttings look good. I didn't have time to look at plants, as I was really shooting for a fast turn around time, so I grabbed one label, and then just stuffed boxes accordingly.

LOL Mel, I don't know what I was thinking..... Hmmmm maybe that I have enough rooting already ;) I am jealous though, just as I thought I would be. I LOVE the leaf on that H. lambii, nice choice Gabi.

The addict in me wants to know, Do you think there is time for another order from David,?

Hi Teresa, nice to see you posting :)

Great Falls, MT(Zone 4a)

Tami, absolutely there is time......place your order by Sept 10th or so, then you should have them by mid October don't you think? HA! The major addict in me thinks that I could probably find something else to order in the next 6 days that didn't come with thins one!!
