CLOSED: Burrowing flying brown bugs living in a hanging pot....

Medford, NJ

I have a small pot of carnosa hanging close to the wall of my house on the outside patio. Some bug has taken up residence in that pot and invited the whole family to live there too, must be hundreds. They are small, brown, have a sort of shell, fly, and are about the size of a medium sized ant. I guess they look like a very small, narrow but oval shaped beetle, with two segments, head and body. They burrow into the soil. When I water they all come running out and some fly away. There are about 5 daddy long leg spiders always hanging out in this pot as well, I am assuming they eat these little bugs.

Anyone know what they are and if there is a way I can get rid of them without using anything to harsh - insecticidal soap maybe? I don't like to use pesticides but within a month this plant will have to come indoors so I have to get rid of them.

Thanks - I will try for a photo but I don't think it will be clear enough to be able to see them.
