have some problems with the search engine of Bug Files.

I wonder if it's only me who sometimes have problems with searching a specie in BF.

Today I wanted to enter a Pieris rapae and wanted to look if there were already entries. I tried in different ways; first by entering the genus and specie, then by filling in only the genus and finally by filling in only the family. In all the occasions came the message 'no results found'. I found that very strange for such a common specie and I had just before that searched for Pieris napi and got there without any problem.
When I tried to go a second time to Pieris napi it said again 'no results found' and I tried several times knowing that this one was definitely in the BF. I sometimes had that problem in the PF also.

I am unable to explain your problems. I tried myself searching for Pieris rapae and found it straight away: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bbugorder%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=Pieris&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=rapae&Search=Search

I did just come up with one way that the search can fail. If you have a stray space character, either before or after the species name, the search fails. I searched for Genus "Pieris"
Species "rapae "
and got this result: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bbugorder%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=Pieris&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=rapae+&Search=Search
which looks like a failed search for the correct name. This is the sort of result that can occur when cutting and pasting names, when it is easy to inadvertently copy an extra space character without realising it.

thanks kennedy.

Yes, I know what you mean by being aware there is no stray space character. I always take care that that isn't the case in front of a name, didn't know though that it also counts for one at the end of the word.
But I am fairly confident that this wasn't the case. I tried it so many times in many different ways that it would be most unlikely that I made that mistake every time. In this case I even didn't copy nor paste, just filled in the name in the normal way.
Most of the time the system works perfectly but sometimes it behaves like this. Thanks anyway.
