Things looked very good when I went out yesterday. Even though there wasn't a whole lot of "ready" compost, what was there looked very nice and rich. My gardens will love it.
I will have to admit to my compost addiction, much like many of you. I can't wait for the leaves to begin falling and the city residents bagging them up. I plan to send hubby on a leaf run a few times. I will tell him that he cannot return home until the back of the pick up is full. ha-ha
Well, I have a very busy day ahead of me today. I better get started. I hope that everyone will have a great week.

It's me again with a question!!!
I have been seriously composting for a couple of years now and have several compost piles around our 4 acres of property. I had purchased 5 peonies in the spring of last year, planted them just as the directions said to plant. They never came up so I dug them out and put the soil into the compost pile. Several months later while I was turning the pile 3, very beautiful plants were growing out the side of the pile - my peonies!! I promptly planted them in another spot in the garden and they are now growing beautifully. Still looking for the other two!!!!
Poor Ruby's husband. I can see it now, man with cap pulled over his face sneaking up in people's yards and taking their leaves. He'll be known as the masked leaves taker. He certainly is brave.
You know bbrogan, I used one of my piles last year to plant seeds in and then move them to the beds. They were really strong plants. Of course I didn't have enough sense to just leave plants there. It was in a rusted old wheelbarrow and would probably have been pretty. I have something growing in mine now, I think it's beans
Great story bb. In my opinion, peonies are very tempramental and do only as they have made up their minds to. Hmmmm......maybe I ought to stick a couple roots down in the compost pile. Nah.....but for sure will give the peonies a big scoop full of stuff.
Lorraine, last fall I was picking up an item that I had asked for through our local freecycle program. The lady who was offering the item had bags all ready out and waiting for the trash men to collect, as did most of the neighbors. I did ask her for hers, but just took a few of the neighbors bags. ha-ha
The only problem with doing this and not speaking with the owner of the bags, is that they may contain other items besides the leaves. I didn't think about that myself but read it somewhere. I will remind John as he pours out the contents of the bags, to be on the look out for foreign matter.
I hope that everyone will have a great week coming up. Happy gardening and composting.
Ruby
