How big are they? If small, they look an awful lot like braconid or maybe ichnemon wasps - parasitic wasps.

The Great Black would be a larger wasp - a regular wasp....

They are a blusih black and resemble that link you put up iris. I could find no information though if they are good or bad. They were out there again last night and this morning in the same place. No nest just gathere on the front porch pole.

Duh!! ( I am a blonde) Although I do not fit the distribution location for these, they are what I believe I have. It seems that they are pollinators so I will leave them alone.
