Eeeek! I have several green ones too, and judging by what I have seen on the diptera site there are a few different ones!

If they hadn't these creepy black hears sticking up from their backs, I think they look rather handsome ! That is if one put aside their rather repulsive (in human eyes) way of living.

I think I'm sure enough now after comparing them with the ones on the diptera site that mine are all what I thought they were; the common Lucilia caesar.

I walk on ice with these, I see some in other families which look the same! I haven't yet got around to making close comparisons, but that may be impossible. I come across some flies which have several species with very minor differences (such as some hairs in a certain place), it gets scary!

Here's one of mine,

bonitin, if you go to the diptera.info site and click on the 'Forums' link on the top bar, then 'Diptera (adults)' you will find a thread titled 'Lucilia'.

There you will see what I mean!

Sigh.....................yes, now I see what you mean!
I thought that was an easy one, but it isn't!!

I googled images of the Lucilia illustris and Lucilia bufonivora. Illustris looks extremely similar to caesar, bufonivora has much less black hears on the back like yours.

I'm not even going to try.........!!!!!
