How do I take care of a Hindu Rope?

Oh...orchids! I forgot to add orchids, even though I picked up a new one yesterday.....

LOL, Kelly. We could go on all day like this, couldn't we? It's interesting that we all have such varied, yet similar, plant interests!

Aaah ... collections/obsessions! At one time I could have been referred to as the "Crazy Cat Lady". We had five kitties at one point. Down to just one now ... had to have our "Sweet Cali" euthanized last week and I've been trying to stay busy playing with my plants and lurking on DG to keep my mind occupied. The veterinary clinic is looking for homes for kittens and one of the girls asked my husband if we wanted one ... we aren't quite ready yet after just losing another of our old gal's. I have been called Plant Lady by a few too (hence my username here on DG) but from photo's I've seen, a lot of you folks have waaay more plants than I could even imagine. I have come to love Hoya's since finding the hoya forum here and seeing all you enablers posting pictures! I do like orchids, and have about a dozen or so ... mostly from the clearance racks at Wal-Mart. I have a few Epiphyllum's ... found blooms on the large E. hookeri this morning and I have one bud about to pop on E. oxypetalum ... watching and waiting for that one as I've never seen the bloom and I know it's fragrant as well! I will have my camera in hand again tonight! I like Philodendrons a lot too. Heck, I guess I could say I just have an obsession of most plants as long as they don't have thorns ... but still like even a few that are rather thorny (Ric Rac orchid cactus and Bougainvillea and Roses ... and ...!

^_^

... was once called the "cookie lady" by a lot of folks too, but that's another story ... don't find time to bake much nowadays .. too busy playing in the dirt!

I'm with you guys...I've gone through a LOT of plant addictions...orchids, aroids, roses, A.V.s etc., right now I'm trying to trim it down to adeniums and hoyas..and the roses and succulents and cactus and houseplants and whatever else I already have.
I don't doubt something else will get my attention and I'll be off on a new tangent.
AND if I happen to run into an oncidium 'Sharry Baby' it will no doubt follow me home and I'll be off on orchids gain...
There are just '2manyplants' out there that I would love to have!

I had read many years ago that this hoya loved to be kept quite wet. The last time I grew this plant, I grew it in one of those self-watering hanging pots, with the reservoir at the bottom and a tube of soil going into the water. The Hindu Rope growing in this pot did better than any other time I had attempted to grow the plant.

As Carol said, mealies love this hoya and I grew it back before BATS/Marathon was available and I have not grown it since. I ended up having to get rid of the plant each time I grew it due to the plant being covered in mealies. Now that I have BATS, I may try and grow this plant again.

Beautiful plant, BTW.

2manyplants: Oooh, Onc. 'Sharry Baby' has been on my wish list for a couple of years ... ever since I heard someone on DG talking about it and saw a photo and heard that it smells like chocolate!

It does...I LOVE the fragrance!
Had one, and unfortunately broke my knee and all my plants suffered from too little attention...Sharry Baby perished along with a few others.
I found her last time at Home Depot.
Will probably keep looking there till I 'accidentally' find her again!
