I know the Tiger ST but I always get confused on the other one, mosby. Do you know what the blue one is? Nice picture to have two different ones in the same shot.

Oh, Chris...this Polyphemus moth cat reminds me of your cat. If not the same species, maybe related?

Linda, SOLVED! That is definetly the cherry tree cat. Now that you have given him a name, I was able to look up that he should have a much better appetite. So I am going to put him back on the tree that I found him. Then I will have a cage if I decide to bring in the longtailed skipper egg that I watched her lay this afternoon. ( I hope it is still there)
Thanks for the ID.
CordeleDeb, The Monarch cats have both times pupated on the exact line of where the hot glue attaches the screen to the lid. There was so many this time that they used the middle also. If I decide to go get the BSTs that are all over my brothers parsley, then I will need the cage and lid that the Monarchs are on. I think I am going to glue them to longer sticks that I can put and leave in the eclose netting. Not sure yet, I might just put the BSTs on my outside parsley and hope for the best. I think I might have bit off more than I can chew with all the different ones that I have been trying to take care of.

Well, my constant chanting of "butterfly, butterfly" must have paid off. I got home today and Mom said the polydamas cat was still eating and hanging out. I had to go outside and water my new plants so I stopped and checked it out. I was so excited to see that he made himself a sling! I knew something wasn't quite right because it didn't look like all of his feet were on the vine. Sure enough, he's only attached at his tail and he's hanging by a thread, literally!
Melanie
My Gulf Frit was back for his daily meal of blanket flower goodness. I moved the bf house a few feet so it's alongside our sliding glass door. This way, I can be in the living room and still look right into it. While I was doing that and explaining to Dad what the caterpillar was doing, a Giant Swallowtail flew right by the patio! I had been watching it fly around but it came really close and I got a good look at it. Dad said, "Oh, I've seen that one flying around." He did manage to ID a White Peacock that he saw while delivering the mail. Also, I was watering the passion vines and I found three more eggs. I think these are Gulf Frit eggs judging by where and how they were laid. I brought them in and added them to the other one. I also saw a Polydamas over by the bougainvillea but it got shy and flew off. I can ID them now because they don't have the tails like other swallowtails. Lots of action here in the neighborhood!
Melanie
That is a pretty butterfly Mr_C. : ) Do you know what kind it is?
~Lucy
Let's all sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Melanie! Hope your butterflies give you tons of enjoyment!
Hi Lucy

Mosbyone!
Lovely pics of the Tiget Swallowtails! They are both TST. The yellow is the male, and the black one is a dark form TST. Good capture!

How things with you Deb................... been a while since we spoke.
Mark
~Happy Birthday, Melanie~ Hope you have a wonderful day filled with lots of beautiful butterflies. : )
Mark, A nice lady on here sent me some 'Lucifer' seeds, and another lady is suppose to trade me a plant. I'm on my way, huh? One down, a hundred to go. lol : )
~Lucy
Mark, I'm so glad you posted, Been thinking about you when I divided my Crocosmias yesterday.
Lucy
Hundred to go????????????????????? try 300 to go........................ LOL
You will enjoy Lucifer............. its a lovely Red and quite tall and graceful.
You should see 'Pepper' Lucy............ GORGEOUS and my favourite.
Deb (Cordeledawg)................. Awwwwwwww, how sweet.......
You have been dividing already???............ you must be well in front of us in the blooming stakes. Some of mine are only just starting to bloom.
Yea, Mark, I probably divided too soon. Mine were under a huge pine tree that I've extended the garden bed around it. I needed to bring them forward since they were so clumped together and I had not had any blooms.
If they didn't bloom at all then you may as well move them........ Won't do them any harm.
Thats prob what they needed.....
My garden is a mass of colour at the moment............. looks sooooooooooooo wonderful!!!!
Sounds beautiful Mark!
I actually had a go at Crocosmias this year too.. They were "Emberglow". Boy did the hummers ever go for those! What a wonderful plant!
Sounds like yours did very well too Deb!
Chris! What an awesome cat that it, now that we get a good look. Can't wait to see it as a pretty moth!
I let this thread get way long, so much was going on!

:-S~Deb
Deb
Oh it is beautiful.............. Have a woman calling round tomorrow morning to take some pics etc and do an interview with me for a magazine called 'Lincolnshire Life'. Its a posh magazine!!! http://www.lincolnshirelife.co.uk/
The hummers adore crocosmia apparently............ wish we had hummers here in england!!
Emberglow is a lovely red one Deb.......... Pottsii x Paniculata
Sultry-Red interspecific hybrid from Bressingham Gardens bred by Alan Bloom, the main species in this is Pottsii, hence the flowers. Sets seed readily and fruiting stems sold as cut flowers in Netherlands....
Shot of a few plants for you deb........
beautiful female eastern tiger swallowtail. Those are my favorites!!
Everybody, I think Deb started a new thread, because this one was getting too long.
Go here.Page 16 : ) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/766456/
Wow Mark the Corcosmias and other flowers look spectacular! Nice mixture!
Mosbyone~ Yes a pretty light form female TST.. The main difference between them and the male is all the blue on the lower dorsal wing.. She's lovely! You must have some good cherry or willows around there. that's their larval host plant.
I love them too Lily!
Thx Lucy, lol.. I don't close any of the threads though.. All 15 others are still open. I feel like there is a lot of great documentations in all of them. People are welcome to stay and mingle, it's just that the page takes longer to load the more posts it has. I still watch all of them.
:-D
Mark - Your Crocosmia look FABULOUS! Your gardens are to die for!!! Nice to see a photo of them all blooming! Are they re-bloomers?
Hi Becky........................... You are back at last!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you.................... oh yes they are all blooming away again.
Most are re-bloomers yes.
Wayyyyy gasp!!
Been prayin' hard in your corner Becky, and held the fort while you took some time, a very understandable leave. Can't say how much I missed having you here with me, way glad to see you back. This is definatly where you are wanted and needed for sure. So much has happened, and the threads help you catch up of course.
Big welcome to you sheea! I hope some of the readers have been looking up your caterpillars, however no doubt we will be looking them up. What is the plant they are clinging to?
This was the big day! I released some healthy Sulphurs to the air~ The male took to the sky, lol! Here are the two left sitting in the rain.
Thanks for the welcome back! I will be probably doing more lurking than posting as I am back to work. Summer is officially over. :-(
Deb - Love your photo of the Sulphurs! Is your Cassia blooming right now?
Hi Sheeba! Love your DG name! I have a not-so-good feeling about your cats, but not sure. Someone else here may recognize them.
Yep Becky blooming now! That pic was taken yesterday. lol I shoulda posted it in page 16, I'm extatic!
I figured you would be busy with school too, (I know), but hey!! We need you here too, :-S
Sheila...I don't know what those cats are either. Would you consider posting that pic also in the Insect Identification Forum?
Sheeba, those kind of look like Walnut caterpillars, they have a red form and get hairer as they get older.
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.ppdl.purdue.edu/PPDL/images/walnut_caterpillars2.jpeg&imgrefurl=http://www.ppdl.purdue.edu/PPDL/weeklypics/Weekly_Picture8-13-01-1.html&h=515&w=400&sz=35&hl=en&start=1&um=1&tbnid=chyZhMbDwSftfM:&tbnh=131&tbnw=102&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dwalnut%2Bcaterpillars%2B%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN
What plant are they on?
Betty, I think your first one is a Giant Swallowtail. I saw one today too, but it flitted by without stopping at the nectaring garden, and I didn't have my camera. :( Lucky you!!
I guess the second one is either a Monarch or Viceroy.
Male monarch.
Rod
Sheeba,
Won't try to identify your cat's with a scientific name. They are not butterfly cat's, as we know them. More likely moths, in the same group as tent cat's.
Rod
