Pines dying?

Klamath Falls, OR(Zone 6b)

And it's not just one. Most of the pines lining the front are getting needle damage. Can anyone tell me what's causing this? TIA

Pinus contorta.

No sign of any fungal infection (black spots etc) and it is only the older needles that are dying. Has it been unusually dry this summer? That would make them shed the older needles to help reduce transpiration.

OK, thanks resin. Taking a look around our area today, it seems almost all the pine trees are doing this. So, you're probably right. It has been pretty dry and hot.

My pine did that last summer, and the landscaper said it was natural in the heat as long as it wasn't all over the tree. The tree did fine, and was green until a few weeks ago when the heat set in again, so I'm not too worried.
