My word! Your living room is a jungle! Love all the windows, and so bright! Does it take you all day to water?
I have been adding more plants to my winter collection to but not that many, house isn't bright enough in winter, all the good window light is taken already by my regular plants, so adding new ones is a fight for space. Also I live near "Dreary Erie"
I might pot up some coleus and winter over at the office, looks like tomorrow's project! LOL
ORANGE, Brown, Rust & Peach blooms
rcn- love it ! have you considered a shelf all along that horizintal board below the windows? but how to water..............would be difficult
LOL, and that's only HALF of the living room! Even though it looks bright, after the morning sun moves to the right we lose alot of the light. We had to rearrange the living room last winter to bring in more light - there are two bookshelves just to the right of the lamp in the picture that used to be in front of the window on the left. The loaded shelves were blocking too much light so we moved them to the center of the room to create a sort of room divider. In front of all the windows in the photo are glass topped tables which are loaded down with plants once the frost arrives. Two years ago I bought a case of those clear plastic trays - the kind you usually use as tops for seedling flats and we use them to set all the pots in and water the plants from below. It saves time on watering, but it still takes about an hour or more to get everything properly watered. I'll have to post pictures this fall when we finally bring in all our babies - if you think this looks like a jungle, wait until this year!
Debbie, that picture reminds me of our rooms last year, and here too, there are even more pots this year. I brought in a few this week, but there are still at least 20 or more pots that will need to come in. Since you are fairly close to me, what is latest date that you will bring things in? I am trying to bring in a few each day, do I need hurry up?
If I hadn't forked over about $10,000.00 this spring and early summer to repair automobiles that my new teenage driver damaged, I would have been able to have had my dream renovation done. John and I had discussed knocking out a wall of the smallest bedroom where teenaged Tucker sleeps. Along with doing that, we had hoped to install a sliding glass door and extend small our back deck over to the end of that room. Didn't happen.
I was just planning to sit the all the houseplants that need to come in and put the plants in front of the sliding glass door. What we have decided instead, for the time being anyway...is to install a sliding glass door in the spare bedroom. Where the door will be, there is already a window that is making some of my plants that I kept inside all summer, very happy. I am hoping that the others will be happy there too. Again, the large ones will just sit on the floor.
The contractor can't get here for a couple more weeks, at least. Boy, do we have a lot of stuff in his way that will need to be moved while he is working on installing the door. This room has mostly served as a clutter catch all for a couple of years now. It needs a purpose. It's purpose will be that of "Plant Room."
Thank you for bringing up the topic Debbie. I wonder what everyone else does when winter time rolls around and they are having to make space for over wintering plants? Do tell, or someone start another thread, or I guess that I could do it myself, but just don't feel at the moment like typing that story again. haha.
Today is hump day, I hope that everyone will have a good 'rest of the week."
Take good care.

Was just thinkin' about that Ruby as I noticed this recent heat had put MORE growth on my Plumies. Time to start watering everything w/BATS so that all the creepy crawlies are coming in my house with the pots...ugh!
i am going to attempt to bring in a few plants today. Already set them aside earlier in week, they just didn't make it inside.
I am already looking for spots to sit things. In terms of killing any creepies that are on the plants, what is the best procedure? I brought several in already and didn't even check for bugs.
Yesterday morning UPS delivered a box from a nursery that I have used the past few years. Out of 18 things that I planted from them earlier in the summer, only a few things came up. They are making good on their guarantee and have replaced those that didn't make it. So....I have a whole collection of plants to tackle in the next three days. That means that first off, John has to begin digging up some huge Lariope that is planted in a bed in the front yard in order for these things to have a home.
Believe me when I tell you that we are running out of space to plant things. Along with the things that I see in stores that I just have to have and him bringing in day lilies and other things from his home place, our hill side is almost completely full. Poor guy has certainly earned his keep with digging this past year or so. And... I think that I will keep him. ha-ha
At some point, not sure whether to do in fall or spring, but we have an ornamental sea grass zebra plant. I exaggerate not when I say that this plant stands about 9 feet tall and probably 6 feet wide. When we planted it three years ago, it was less than 6 inches high. It definitely needs to be moved also because it is growing up in to our front deck.
I am hoping that we don't run in to problems like I have heard about some other sea grasses and how awful it is to try and dig them up. Cross my fingers and say my prayers.
I am going to start a new topic here and see if I can get folks talking about their "winding down" garden chores. I will say here that I hope everyone who is reading will have a great weekend. Ours is going to be busy, busy, busy. Again!!!

Cigar plant, Cuphea ignea
this is in its peak right now ~ for the past severaI years I have been planting 3 of these annuals in a large pot along with a border of purple fan flower. They are about 4' tall now and just full and beautiful. The last hummer I saw was on Oct 2 ~ when they were here this was a favorite of theirs :)
Great picture Wind. Everything that you grow is very beautiful though. John is sad to see the hummers go too. He had a lot of fun watching them this summer.

Really nice pics, Bec. Thanks for sharing.
