This guy was on my Brugmansia yesterday morning. He is about the size of a ladybug, maybe a bit bigger. All black. Can't figure out what he is.

CLOSED: Black Beetle
It's a type of Ladybird Beetle, but I am unsure which genus or species. Many of them have melanistic(spelling?) tendencies.

I bet it's an Asian Ladybird - they have that 'W' or 'M' shape on the pronotum.
Thanks guys. I kind of thought it had to be some kind of a ladybird. Asian is bad though right?
Juanita
It's kind of a long story... they were introduced by the USDA, and it's not working out as they had planned. They might wind up replacing some native Lady beetles, but the Asian Lady beetles don't eat all the same pests as the natives, and the Asian species comes into people's houses, and they bite and smell bad, etc., etc...
