Breeding new morning glories

McGregor, IA(Zone 4b)

I am new to this but I have done some daylily crosses, etc. Would anyone care to point me in the direction of a few basic facts of morning glory breeding?

Hi Caitlin,

Make yourself a cup of tea and settle down for some brain food with this one - Ron illuminates the process of cross-pollinating MGs beautifully (which also applies to self-pollination) - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/533754/ -

Ron also explains MG reproductive parts in http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=2032974 (which come from Dr. Yoneda's digitalized book on MG culture - http://protist.i.hosei.ac.jp/Asagao/Yoneda_DB/E/menu.html )

Gardener2005's well written technique - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/732341/

Tagging - great one by Xeramtheum on tagging with foil - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/703648/

The resourceful Gourd's tagging method with bread bag ties - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=3527842 - The rest of Gourd's thread has wonderfully usefull tips on growing MGs

Hope this helps

That`s about it in a nutshell...

I learned how to hybridize by getting out there and trying it all by myself. It is very easy even a third grader could do this. The flower undergoes a transformation as you recognize the structure and different parts.
