Secret Late Summer Seed Trade

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Anyone interested?

Idea 1:
I am thinking to avoid Zone problems, everyone send me 5 sets of seeds, both perennial and annual, a sasbe, I will divide the seeds to the correct zone and send them off.

Idea 2:
We can just take names and assign each person another person, like in a plant trade.

I personaly like the idea of getting an assortment from 5 different people.

Let me know what you think.

Received Packets:
dylancgc - 08-21-07
Bloomheaven - 08-23-07
distantkin - 08-24-07 (I think, do you have a family portrait on your RALabel?)
Crazy4bts - 08-27-07
jordankittyjo - 08-27-07
alinehuey - 08-27-07
jadajoy - 08-28-07

I like idea 1...
I'm in :)

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

I like the first idea too.. Is it 5 sets of different seeds or can some sets be the same?? Sorry but rather new here.. Had to ask..

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

I love the new idea. I'm in please.

Fran I have an envelope ready to go to you, if you decide on the 5 seed packets I will send them with your seeds.

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

I am thinking it should be 5 different sets, that way we have a hugh assortment. BUT, I know that sometimes we don't have 5, so I would guess exceptions could be made.

ALSO I think if you have a seed that EVERYONE wants (seems like the new coneflower seeds are "most wanted") that would work too.

Glad to see you all want to play. Its been a long time since I've seen a secret seed trade around here.

Fran

Clearfield, PA(Zone 5a)

My coneflower seeds aren't ready yet. Are you going to have another secret seed trade later on?

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Hugo,
We haven't started yet, just seeing where everyone is... I was thinking to make the date to get the seeds to me by Sept 1, that will give us a few weeks to get all our "seeds" in a row. I have quite a few plants that are just now setting seed. I really want to share a few of them.

Sept 1, seeds to me
Sept 5, ALL seeds go back in the mail

Sound like a plan to everyone?

Fran

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

I'm in-lcosden, will you remind me? LOL

Avon, IN(Zone 5a)

I'm in!! I'll have to send my seeds earlier though, b/c we're on vacation from Aug 24 to Sept 2. So i'll get them in the mail b4 vacation and look forward to getting seeds soon after my return!

Frans are you in the address exchange?

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes, I am in the exchange, anyone wanting to send early, no problem.. I just want to give everyone a chance to participate.

If your not in the exchange dmail me and I'll get you that info.

Fran

Saint Cloud, MN(Zone 4b)

OK, my seeds are ready-we are doing option one right? 5 for 5? I want to get them ion the mail before I forget-LOL

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes, we are doing 5 for 5.

*5 sets of seeds in SASBE sent to me by Sept 1
*Assortment of seeds would be nice, both Perennial & Annual
*If you have a "HOT" seed and would like to send more than 1 packet (ie 3 of your 5)
I think that would be okay.
*The 5 packets you recieve will not all come from the same originating person
They will all come to you in your SASBE
*Almost forgot, $1.14 is usually enough postage
*I will keep all seeds zone friendly
*I will have all seeds remailed by Sept 5

I think that covers it, so far we have only 9 participating... hope more join in so we can get a good assortment.
Fran

Belleville, IL(Zone 6a)

do we need 5 pkgs of seeds or 25 pkgs of seeds?
thaks
diana

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

5 packages of seeds

Pretend list

1 package of (10seeds) liatris
1 package of (12seeds) pink conflower
1 package of (25seeds) marigolds
1 package of (8seeds) canna
1 package of (15seeds) bee balm

For a total of 5 packages
(the amount in each seed packet is up to you, remember to be generously fair)

Pawling, NY(Zone 5b)

Got it Fran.. I'll send mines out as soon as I get home next week..

LOL.. Robbi.. Yes I will remind you.. :)

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

I will stick mine in with the ones I am sending you for our trade.

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

I'm in! Might even deliver my seeds personally. Though I warn you, my truck bed will be filled with white datura seeds (why does anyone even GROW these monsters????)!

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

It is late and I never did any of this, just tell me what to send and when. I get self addressed but what is the rest be? I have hare grass seeds or bunny tail grass, and my fourwinged salt bushes are going to seed. I can get some seeds from Bird of Paradise and flax and some other things or scout out more exotic things if I can.

Clearfield, PA(Zone 5a)

ok, I'll try it. I have other seeds besides the coneflowers.

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Dawn those are all great seeds. Just grab 5 varieties, package them up and send them off!
Huge- Any seeds are fine, I was just using the coneflowers as examples..

SASBE+ self-address-stamped-bubble-envelope=$1.14 in postage on it.

Anyone interested, there is a template for making your own seed packets in the "extras" on daves... http://davesgarden.com/files/daves_garden/

Avon, IN(Zone 5a)

Fran!! Those seed packet templates are so cool! Thanks for pointing them out to us...

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Do you pack them all together or seperate them in the bubble wrap? What address do we send them to? I really am naive!

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Dawn,
Put each variety in a seperate pack, see link above on how to make your own, Then put all 5, your SASBE into another BW envelope. If you use a bubble envelope, they should be protected and you wouldn't have to use any extra.

Just wondering, I have a bunch of Yucca seeds, anyone interested, I will add them to your trade.

Fran

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I can use them here. Hey where to send????????

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Send them to me, I am in the address exchange, then I will sort to zone and send you 5 packs.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

Ok, I never saw that but I will find it.

Southern, United States

I sent mine on Sunday Frans, I hope that's not too early. I didn't want to get busy and forget. Thanks! bloomheaven

Avon, IN(Zone 5a)

mine will be on the way tomorrow!! Thanks for doing this.

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

No problem Dawn, we all go blind every now and then lol

I think I will update the very first entry on this thread to let you all know who's package I have received. dylancgc was first, I got hers yesterday.

Fran

Rose Lodge, OR(Zone 8b)

fran, pls remind me if you don't see pax from me soon.

Rosamond, CA(Zone 8b)

I can`t do it until Friday, is that too late? If so then let me know and I will do the next one? We go to seed late here, our first cold day is usually Thanksgiving.

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

Dawn, I plan on me shipping everyones pkg out Sept 5th, I think you have time.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

i;m new to this what is SASBE

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

SASBE+ self-address-stamped-bubble-envelope

Note: Use a bubble envelope, put stuff inside (seeds & postage), I can reuse that same envelope to send your stuff back to you, just remember to put enough postage inside the envelope so I can return it to you.

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

Did I remember the label and postage, or do I need to send it?

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

oops, forgot to answer that ?
Yes you sent everything... your ok I'm just waiting for the 5th.

It's tough when you get a little older and the mind starts playing tricks on you.. how many times have I spent the day wonder "did I turn off that coffee pot / iron"? lol

Fair Grove, MO(Zone 6b)

I sent off 4 packages when I sent you the seeds for this trade & for our trade so who knows who got what. If it were not for sticky notes I would be lost.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

call me stupid, but how do i get to the address exchange?
