With lily ordering season well underway, I thought it might be fun to look back over the lily season and think what it was that either surprised you, or what you were particularly fond of this season. As I am pondering what additions to make to my garden this fall, I would love to hear from all of you that grow lilies what you loved most this season and why. What bloomed the longest for you?
This is speciosum album, with Limelight Hydrangea in the background. One of my last lilies to bloom.
What was your new favorite this year?
I really like Lamb's Blood from buggy. Also Robinson's Comet from one of Mainiac's auctions. This one has put on a lot of bulbils so I will be collecting those. I really haven't paid any attention to how long they bloom and since the first season of a new lily isn't very representative I'll check out that aspect next year.
I'm not ordering any new ones this year or if I do it won't be more than 4 or 5 from buggy or PNWLS. I'm digging everything out from the okee fenokee section of garden and lilies won't be going back in there. Just too wet in winter. So less space will mean fewer lilies :(
There once was a frog,
And he live in the bog,
On the banks of Lake Okefenokee.
And the words of the song
That he sang all day long,
Were "Croakety, croakety, croaky."
Said the frog I have found
That this life's daily round
In this place is exceeding . . . remember that one?
One of my many favorites.
Of course, it could be an old favorite too.
well as old as I am I never hear hat one how cute
Gloria
I vague-ly vague-ly vague-ly recall (like in a past life) something like that.....
The Legend of Lake Okefenokee
Laura Ingalls Wilder
I would have to say Lavender Gem was the one I was most excited to see bloom, but San Souci's hot pink spots made me smile everytime I looked at it. The one I got the most enjoyment from was the little oriental dwarf 'Angelique'. It didn't even come up to my knee caps but bloomed it's little head off!
All 3 in a row, fully in bloom.
Edited to add: 'Rose Sonnet' hasn't opened yet.....so I may change my mind!

Sorry, but I liked them all best. :) LOL
How did I know one from your "Naughty Garden" would be in the running, Moby? It sure is a beautiful one though.
Moby, I'm intrigued by your naughty garden....I've seen it mentioned in several threads. Can you post a picture of all of it and tell about more of the plants in it? (assuming it's appropriate for a general audience, that is, lol!)
LOL Well, it really doesn't have a different 'look' than the rest of the garden, as it too, is all mixed with lilies, daylilies and irises. It's those iris breeders that are the naughtiest of all!
It all started when I came across a daylily by the name Lusty Little LuLu, but that was my grandma's nickname (who 'had' to get married in 1926) but ultimately became the start of the family garden. In searching daylily names for the family section I came across things like Frankie's Fantasy ~ hardly appropriate to represent my dad in the family plot! So, from there I added a few more and was generously 'gifted' by some fellow naughty DGer's...
Disclaimer: These are all genuine, register names!
Daylilies: Palace Concubine, Passion District, Shady Lady, Evening Enchantment, Making Whoopee, Pantie Raid, Fallen Angel, Sensual Experience, Dirty Old Broad, Red Hot Daddy and Magic Mama
Irises: Making Eyes, Poem of Ecstasy, Tessie the Tease, Midnight Mink, Wench, Ominous Stranger, Horny Lorri
Lilies: Nymph, Heart of Passion, Tramp, Vamp, Spank, Geisha Girl, Centerfold, Hot Lips, Exotic Lady
And to finish it off ~ agastache 'Sinning'
There's more, but you get the gist of it. :)
And you dont have something called the white whale??
OH, what fun! Those names are a hoot!
Well, that's the sveltest beached Moby I've ever seen. :) Where are you at in that picture?
That would be the Mediterranean Sea, a view from the south of France.
This does count as a favorite memory!
