I think this is correct, Empis livida Family Empididae which we don't yet have.

This is the male, I probably have the female too as I have others but more than one female species.

Yes Janet, I agree that looks like Empis livida.

Thanks Ken, only one image, had some more not perfectly focused but this shows enough.

I need a bigger MP camera (my son is going to buy me one), many of the bugs I have are too small for the 5MP I have! There are all sorts of tiny predator flies with long legs which I can just get but are too small, some only about 3mm long! It's the mixture of plants and hedge location I have that attract them I think, I had some black aphids on a dahlia's stems and watched it, there was a whole food chain going on there. Of course you have to spend time stood amongst the shrubbery when the sun shines!
