CLOSED: Black-banded, white dragonfly

Does anyone know who this guy is who was hanging out on my garden trowel yesterday. I couldn't get any closer for a picture without spooking him so the picture is pretty awful. I can see that this forum is probably going to end up costing me money for a new camera. :)

Sorry Prairie, can't see the colors or markings on him.....looks like a Damselfly though!

DG made me get a new camera too, it's probably pretty common lol

Would my damselfly perhaps be a female Eastern Forktail (Ischnura verticalis)? It is found in Kansas where I live and this picture looks just like what I saw.

Interestingly, none of the other Eastern Forktails I could find were white and black but this page mentions the females have several different color schemes.

I don't know if a better camera would allow me to get far enough away to do the trick but I missed photos of the first monarch of the return season and a blue and yellow dragonfly yesterday. Today I missed one of a gorgeous yellow swallowtail. I'm having a serious pout over the lost opportunities :)

It could be that one, often the females and immature males will look different than the mature males.

A zoom lens will help you get those far off shots and then with a little cropping, with an editing program, you have a pic that looks pretty good. Maybe you could get another lens for your camera.

LOL, I still get some serious pouts over dragonflies or butterflies that just won't hold still. The dragons are hard to photograph.
