Flowers for 8/12/07

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh you just want to make nuts with desire. LOL

OK, so where did you find Peach and Yellow Caps, Cat?? I have never seen them before and I have a need now. LOL. So are there tons of this shape out in the world that I have no clue about?

Karen, what a tropical delight you have there. I love the concept of a bloom a day, I wonder if it will keep the doctors away. I need the Color of Purple too. LOL

Here I am complaining it is too cold. I feel if it were warmer I would get more blooms. Last night I looked at the temp and it was 57 degrees.

Kell, you're so lucky in the cool weather. My oldest daughter goes to SFSU and likes the cold (and LOVES SF), although she says she could use just a couple of days of San Bernardino summer weather. My younger daughter went up to stay with her for two weeks (she's the hot-weather surf girl), and the first thing she said when I picked her up at the airport the other day, was "ahhhhhh, finally heat!" - I'm melting and she just cannot get enough, lol.

My DH constantly reminds me, "Karen, we live in the desert, not in Hawaii." Well, my reply is that if I can't live in the tropics, I'll bring the tropics to my house! One of these days, I'll win the lotto and move ;-)

Thanks for the compliments, Brugie. I also have them in mixed amounts of shade. Some cultivars (like Gator Pride, Black Dragon, Dragon's Breath, etc.) seem to need partial shade, whereas others like Molten Lava, Electric Blue, Voodoo Magic, etc., seem to like as much hot sun as they can get. Although this week, I think everything (especially) me is getting just too much heat, it's horrible yucky hot here...

Have a beautiful day!

Thanks. I'll have to think hard about where to put them next year. I'm sure I can find enough partial shade around here someplace.......

Karen, thanks for the heads up about Black Dragon being one of the Hibs that prefer partial shade in hot areas. Mine was so pale this year and I thought it was the intense heat; it was 98 today. Running right outside to move it to a shadier spot.

Awesome picture. I'm going to be totally broke next spring, but it will feel good. LOL!
