Sitting right next to me (on the floor) typing on her laptop...cool, huh?? and guess who's on the other end of the phone in the pic? ...you'll never guess...ok, I'll tell you. it's Nancy (nap). a tiny mini-RU, right here in beautiful downtown Wheatfield, NY. (yes, Al, I know...Wheatfield doesn't exist).
anyway, she is just the most fun and we will post more pics and stuff tomorrow.
Hey!! Kassia's here!!!
You're having all the fun without me! Save some for tomorrow please! (Hope I don't get lost again. Better charge up the cell phone.) See you around lunchtime!
I promise there will be fun left. We're waiting for you ;0)
Awe....I'm jealous!! I want to be there but alas Im stuck in Maine with frankenstien's foot!!
Cool! I nominate Kassia as the permanent goodwill ambassador for the NE Forum. Have fun!
Jan, maybe Kass can help you find your imaginary friend!
Maybe Kassia will get to Maine and fix frankenstien's foot!!
I would go to Wheatfiled - if it only existed, bet you didn't tell Nancy that.
Al, Wheatfiled doesn't exist, but WheatFIELD on the otherhand, is right here X. Kassia didn't have any trouble finding it. Nancy had a 'little' trouble the first time...but she got here ok today, and brought beautiful caladiums for us, too.! So now you have to come :-p just look for the beautiful dahlias by the lake! after all, even the smallest dahlia embiggens the whole garden (my obscure reference for today).
Poor Nancy - she looks mentally worn out already!
I think I know why Kassia is so sweet and generous. She gets it from her mother. just look at what her mom sent me...these lovely towels are hand-embroidered and the edging is hand-crocheted. and I am supposed to USE them!! I want to put them in a frame! oh, and Kassia also brought me some of her daturas in pots. I love them!!
Mentally worn out, Al??? I think not. I was very "up" for this little mini-RU, even after traipsing around, taking picutres at Forest Lawn with my son on this hot, muggy Western New York day. Thankfully Jan and George have air-conditioning and plenty of ice water to cool a person down.
Jan seemed happy to have Kassia there, and I think Kassia felt right at home. We talked and took pictures and looked at each other's gardens (via computer) for several hours before Kassia had to leave. It was raining pretty hard so the driving at times was slowed down. I left at the same time and lead the way for about 20 minutes until we had to go in different directions. She is probably almost halfway home by now. Kassia, did you see me stick my arm out and wave goodbye to you when you turned toward Albany? It was raining hard at that point, so you may not have noticed.
I was pleasantly surprised at how easily we fit in with each other, as if we were old friends. No one could have guessed it was a first meeting. Here's a collage of the bunch of us.
Jan showed us some of her beautiful handiwork. The top one is hand-sewn, every little piece stitched together with Jan's needle and thread. But it's unfinished. It is only the top piece. Kassia has instructed Jan to finish it before she returns, because she plans to sleep under it. AND...she intends to inherit it one day, too.
The bottom quilt is a Civil War quilt and some of the pieces are actually that old. The close-up shot is of one of those pieces. Kassia and I had to run our hands over it, just because it was almost a century and a half old.
Nancy, however, seems perfectly normal.
Glad you guys could get together.
The quilts look nice Jan. Like the gloxinia too.
HI!!!! I am back home.... I totally miss Jan ,George, and Nancy already!!!! :(
It was so much fun... I kept poor Jan up until past 2am.... well, what can I say??? I really felt it was like a slumber party.... with cheesecake and all!!!!!
great food!!!!! delicious family recipe meatballs.... great cheesecake... and Jan was so wonderful and made quiche for breakfast.... oh brother I felt so honored!!!!! and I got to meet the son, daughter in law and gorgeous grandaughter!!!! oh such great people... like Nancy said it was hard to believe that we had just met!!!! I am trully grateful to Dave for creating DG.... otherwise I would have never had a chance to meet Jan and Nancy....
somethings in life are just so cool!!!!
Celeste, I really want to meet you.... ah I hope it happens soon!!!
Victor, I asked Jan about the imaginary friend... no luck!!! thnaks for the nomination!!!!
Sounds like you had a super time!! We had our own mini-ru this past Saturday too! Pirl hosted it. What a wonderful time. I had the pleasure of finally meeting the people I've been chatting with for so long. Thanks Arlene. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/759505/ .
Al, do you think the term "normal" could mean different things to different people? Maybe we are all normal, if not in our own circles than in someone else's.
Then again, sometimes I feel normal and sometimes I don't. Like Mounds and Almond Joy.
The three of us yesterday were like three different personalities, who for a short time were in perfect unison with each other.
Happy to hear you are safe at home, Kassia.
Anita, thanks for posting pics of your RU. Looks like it was a pleasant get-together. Would like to see more of it.

I love Nancy's take on our little party. It was much more like 3 old friends who hadn't seen each other in a while reuniting than 3 new friends getting acquainted.
Celeste, I think you need to leave your DH with a wonderful (male) nurse and go out on tour. everybody wants to meet you! and that includes me not the least, as you well know.
Kassia and I were having a discussion about what she could do about some bees nesting in the ground in her yard (don't want her little nephews getting into a bee nest). anyway, I showed her a poison-free product I bought (mainly mint oil) that worked very well for me on some hornets. so I wanted to give her the web site where I bought it. both she and Nancy found this very funny and I can't figure out why...

Good one, Gram. My Dad gets rid of ants by spraying them with Windex Antibacterial spray. I tried it on ants digging in my brick sidewalk and they went away - like magic! If Celeste can't make it in the Fall maybe we can make the road trip for plugs in May a RU?
good tip, Yank
Well thats another side of Victor he didn't tell us about...wonder why?? he he he
I would love to meet all of you and would gladly leave DH with a male nurse. I just can't find one I can afford...it seems after 5 minutes with DH and 4 dogs, the price doubles or tripples!!
In reality, the longest I have been away from DH is 4 hours in the last 9-10 weeks. I have bribed one of his good pals with Lasanga so I can go to the Balloon Festival this coming Sat.
He'll sit with DH from 2-10pm for a pan of Lasanga, garlic bread, salad, and a homemade desert. I took the deal and I really need the break from both DH & Justin.
DH friends come sit with him so I can go to town, or play outside. One of them called me and tried to get me to go fishing with them. They said it was the first time they ever heared me say "NO" to fishing in the 20+ years they've known me. LOL
Here's a few photos of DH foot.....not pretty but looking much better than it did! (don't mean to gross anyone out...it really does look good compared to before!)
What a collection of beautiful, warm, friendly faces! That's a group I'd do anything with.
Hmm, Kassia never mentioned her nephew being a pest. Cat, sounds like your dad saw Greek Wedding. They used Windex for everything - was pretty funny. Celeste, too late for the gross out warning!! Just kidding - a scar is born! Looks like good healing to me. Can he put weight on it yet?
I was thinking My Big Fat Greek Wedding too. Celeste should try some on DH's ankle.
So far DH can only put wait on it. So Celeste has to wait on him.
Dave, when are you leaving for vacation?
LOL.you guys are nuts! Yes he can now put a small amount of pressure on it but it turns a very lovely shade of red/purple if it hangs down to long. It is also still pretty swollen and only swells more when he "walks" on it. (not really walking....old man shuffle??)
Wow - it really is slow going. My best to him Celeste. I was asking when Dave was leaving because of his horrible pun!
That bad? I'm rusty.
Rusty47? anything? ok, you're invited next time!
Pix, as much as I like purple, tell DH I hope the healing continues and he is really back on his feet soon.
Victor, nice try.
Are we changing our user names again? That was soooooo confusing last time we did it!
Celeste, it looks great... nice healing... the secret is really rest... very easy for that to open,,, so feet up!!!!! '
Victor .. we think you own Victorpest.... !!!!!
Own or are????
pleading the 5th here.
Pleading the 5th ALSO!!!!!!
