Growing wild

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

We have an assortment of colors that grow wild in my parents' unkempt rock garden. As bad as the weeds have become, it never ceases to amaze me that these beautiful flowers just appeared here one year, and every year, it seems there are more colors.

P.S. Anyone know an eligible single landscape gardener? LOL

Hey those are cute little flowers. Could we have a closer look at the flowers, sepals and leaves ?

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

KyWoods - Looks like the flowers are Ipomoea purpurea...not sure about the white blooms...

I see heart shaped leaves and trilobed leaves...the trilobes could be Ipomoea purpurea var.diversifolia or Ipomoea hederacea...

Closeups of the sepals on the white ones would be nice...

OK, will get some closeups tomorrow morning. Yep, there are at least two different shaped leaves. This fall, I wanna rip out all that nasty english ivy and put up some trellises for the mgs. I have one down there, but they climbed up the hill this year trying to escape the ivy.

Sorry these are late, but here are the pics of my wild mgs:

Interesting--thanks, Ron! Sorry I didn't make it back with more pics yet, but they're coming. Amazing what can just appear without human intent, huh?

OK, here's the white one (sorry for the blur):

There are two shades of pink ones:

Those are pretty little gems. I like the white one and the white centers on the last two. Thanks for sharing. :)

Interesting that the pale blue one is the first to close up when the sun hits them, then the white one, then the others. And how did all those colors end up here together, intertwined, when no human planted them? Do birds or other critters eat seeds from elsewhere and deposit them intact?

You're welcome, fellow cajun! (I was born in N.O.) Here's a top view of the purple one:

KyWoods n- The last 3 photos you posted are all Ipomoea purpurea...birds are known to eat the seeds...flood waters also carry the seeds...

Thanks, Ron! What a wonderful gift from our local birds--we do feed them quite well. And we do live two miles from the river, and it has definitely flooded in the past. Thankfully, we live way up on top of a hill, so we're safe.
