I am joining in on all this fun you have!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

This basket is so heavy i couldn't lift her up on one of the hangers coming from the ceiling of the front porch. This lady in my hometown has a nursery and she told me she has 15-20 culitivars. I thought this was a good deal for 19.95.....................

Yes, a very good deal. What pretty flowers gessiegail!! Did your nursery friend tell you what some of the cultivars are? Glad you are looking to join in on our fun.

I am trying to get all my plants in order for the house taker to not have to water all the time while i am gone..................so didn't even have time to ask the name of mine...........or the others...............she had so many 4 and 6" pots overflowing with different cultivars...............will ask when i get back home week after next.........

Long Beach, CA

Your plant looks to me like Hoya pubicalyx 'Pink Silver'. You can find lots of information about it on the web. It is an easy one to grow and care for and is already blooming for you so you have a big head start.
Welcome here and to the start of your "hoya days".

We are having a get together for south Texas on Oct. 13................so we will be working on lists from different nurseries............then people can decide which nurseries they want to visit..............that is how i will get her list of hoyas...................

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Jeri

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Nice plant!! (And flower!)

Karen

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

She has lots of kinds...........................someone told me that it doesn't do any good to send cuttings unless there is new growth..............will have to take a harder look at this one...........she may have taken all the cuttings to start before she sold it......................jeri, I am not going out of town after all...............will be getting your package off the first part of the week.............will go back to Helen's and see what she has!!!!!!!!!!!!

Medford, NJ

The best cuttings are the ones that come from medium aged growth, not brand new growth, and not older or woody growth. Somewhere in between.

Thanks...............I got one today Bhavana34 for a trade that I needed............it is the heart shaped fragrant one.........maybe it is 'Kerrii'?????????????????

Medford, NJ

My kerri hasn't bloomed yet, not sure if it is fragrant, but the leaves are heart shaped...there is a carnosa cultivar that has heart shaped leaves as well. Do you have a picture?

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Carnosa cultivar with heart shaped leaves like H. kerrii??? Please tell us...picture??

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

They are on the front porch right now...............just bought them today from that same lady in my hometown.........i don't know what i am doing but she said it is very fragrant..............she called this one kerri............and she has one that is a light pink which is a cross of this kerri and the one I bought in the first picture.................

OK...............I will go outside and bring these little pots in.......and take a pic..............

I have to wait until morning..............it is so humid that i can't keep the lense clean long enough to take pic...............

Medford, NJ

Carol, I am trying to think what that carnosa is called, there were a few discussions about it recently, here and on GW - someone will chime in here with the name, or my brain will kick into gear and come up with it..

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok.................here is what I think is the Kerrii...................I have a wonderful trading partner on DG ...............these are for her................I know nothing about Hoyas...........

Are you thinking about h. "Chelsea?" It's supposed to be a cross between kerri and Krinkle 8. Here's a picture of one of the leaves on my plant...

My second purchase of a hoya is now blooming and I believe it is a obovata. I am thrilled and I purchased this in Denver in April and it rode to CA with us as and back to Illinois as we did our driving vacation. My first purchase was kerrii and it leaves are rather dull, is that normal?

Dee

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am bowing out of this as i don't know who is talking to whom...............

Morrison, IL

Sorry, but this is my first post and I now see that I posted in the wrong place. Please excuse and carry on.

Dee

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I sounded abrupt but I didn't mean to run you away.............I really didn't know who was talking to who..................stay on.............i am the one who knows nothing about hoyas (LOL)

Medford, NJ

Dee, it's ok, you were in the right place, sometimes it is work to keep track of conversations on here! First of all, welcome to the hoya forum, if you like hoyas you will like it here! When alot of people are talking, here is the best way to answer if they were addressing you or you have something to say:

Gail - nice plants! I think the second one is a hoya australis, I don't think it is a kerri cross - I am not familiar with any kerri crosses....they usually have white flowers though. Have you seen it bloom or did the lady who sold it to you tell you? Maybe someone else could chime in here, but I will include an australis pic so you can compare the leaves.

Karen, Chelsea is the name. I could not for some reason think of it- thanks, and thanks for the picture too!

And Dee - congrats on your obovata blooming, mine is getting to be a good size and no signs of flowers yet. I have alot of new growth right now, for the first time it is shooting out huge thick vines in every direction. Can you post a picture of your flowers? As for kerri, my leaves are kind of dull too, sort of a matt finish. The leaves are a bit greener and glossier when younger, but it doesn't last long. I think it is natural to the plant, but alot depends on environment and also where the plant comes from - I don't know how many different kerri clones are out there, but with some hoya species, like carnosa for example, the plants will vary in looks.

On Monday, all these are going out to a trading partner.............I can't grow them................this is the one that she says is the cross between my first picture (the darker one) and kerrii...................

Oh, I see - its a cross between two different kerri plants...it looks like kerri, except maybe the leaves are a little rounder.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am laughing as i read your thread...............I wouldn't know one from another...................thanks

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

OH, OK, Chelsea...yes, the leaves are kinda heart shaped, but my mind was on Kerrii shaped and form and was confused. cv. chelsea is a neat hoya.
