Pic of the Day – Vol. 16
Sybil,
I found the Oriole feeder like mine several places on internet. Here's a link at Amazon. I think it is much nicer looking in person. The one review is a bad one as the bottom was broken when theirs arrived. I like the way the feeder looks with my others and mine did hold liquid several seasons so I think I might order another.
I probably purchased mine locally at PetSmart or other store.

GG, That's a beautiful Oriole feeder!!
I bought one that I ordered through a local bird store but I'm not really crazy about.
Mine are not as decorative. Very pretty. I've seen some beautiful feeders - very artsy - very expensive. Nice to see one that is pretty and affordable.
Mine is a plain saucer type w/ sections for jelly but I like that one better.
Poor baby.
I just read something interesting about peanut feeders:
Peanuts: Many birds, such as jays and nuthatches, enjoy peanuts. String the shells together. Don't offer peanuts in the spring and summer, as parents will offer these to baby birds, which will choke.
Anybody know if this is true?
pelletory,
Are you not "crazy" about this particular feeder? Reasons please. I don't have to use one like this and I don't have any other experience with any others so surely would appreciate advice.
I do know that the saucer type hummer feeders are so much easier and faster to clean. My hummers have always preferred the bottle type feeders so I use both kinds and put the saucers where the squirrels tend to destroy the bottle feeders as they leave the saucers alone if they don't have any colored decoration around the ports.
Thanks, gg=alice
Serene image for a Wednesday morning back to work!
No I'm sorry Alice I meant I wasn't crazy about my Saucer Oriole Feeder.

Pelle: I think if that Bluejay saw your caption he'd say, "Who you callin' chicken?!!"
He does look funny, though. :)

Frank, You should have Orchard Orioles in the summer and Baltimore Orioles coming through during migration.
Oranges, I've never had much luck with them but I know Gardenpom in Fla. has a lot of Red bellied Woodpeckers that eat oranges in her trees.
Sybil, Thats interesting; where did you read that?
My woodpeckers (Red Bellied and Red Headed) Mocking Birds and Orioles all eat oranges. I just cut them in half and stick them on the curved up ends of my shepherds hooks, that the regular seed feeders are hanging on.
That's pretty much what my oranges attracted last year, oh yeah...a few coons too :-( But this year, the birds would eat 2 a day, if I'd put them out there...I usually just put out 2 or 3 a week since they're so expensive.
What a beautiful kitty!!
What a pretty kitty----what is her or his name?
Our house finches love the oranges. I would put them on the oriole feeder and next thing there were finches all over it. Now I put the orange halves on a tree stump and whoever wants them can have them!
Betty....His name is Bum...He is ten years old and has six toes on all four paws. He weighs around twenty pounds. We came to an understanding early on. He doesn't bother the birds and I don't spray him with the garden hose. It's alright to look, just don't touch.
Bum is so beautiful and so well behaved. I have two Persians and they would love Bum. He seems so sweet and gentle.
Please anyone on dial up let us know when this thread is getting slow to load.
Thanks! :-)
