With that little black edge in the fore-wing, it's likely that this is a Spring Azure or Southern Spring Azure, one of a group of butterflies called Blues. Celastrina ladon

Did you get a look at the upper side too? That's great picture. It could probably just be narrowed down to a few, like Summer Azure an Appalachian Azure which are also flying in (or near) your area now, but the black edge on the wing is supposed to be an ID characteristic.

You're welcome - I almost forgot, I think it's female. kennedyh has a couple pictures of this butterfly in Bug Files, hopefully he can weigh in on this ID, these are awfully close in appearance...

Those are in Canada, these butterflies are variable. Look at these:

The first site says these don't fly in summer, but another one does... it certainly could be the Summer Azure too, they used to be the same species. Hopefully we'll get some more input here!

I guess the summer flight time they're referring to is in N. Carolina.

Dinu, it's in the same large Family, Lycaenidae. Did you look up the names I gave you for your Blue butterfly?

Not yet Claypa. I've now quite a few pending threads to be verified.
