Hi,
I was wondering if anyone is ordering from either of these two places? There are a small number of bulbs I want to purchase but the $26 in shipping is steep.
Thanks,
Andrew
Ordering from Plantlilies or SW-Gardens
I've been tempted by these places as they both have amazing selections. Have you ordered before? How do they rate, in terms of size/quality?
Haven't ordered.
maybe inanda will chime in, as she knows some of these places quite well. It's the plant inspection(phyto certificate) that makes it seem outrageous. But having ordered from the Lily Nook, I must say that I would it totally worth the efforts.
I guess I was looking to mooch off of someone else's order :*) It doesn't make sense to order just a handful of bulbs and pay $26 in shipping. I'll just have to wait :*)
You can't do better with both. I've known SW for over 30 years, have visited their fields and gardens. In fact, their field was where I saw my first tangos. Think one was-com. I know I brought back some pollen.
As for plantlilies. What CAN I say. Bought over 200 lilies which I planted in VA last year and more this year and ..... and....... You cannot do anything better than both the above ,.... unless you use Lily Nook. I like wandering through the Lily Nook fields, shopping on the hoof as it were. It is exciting to see their trials. Have known Lynnette for years. Didn't visit her fields this year becasue nothing much was in bloom at NALS.
there are so any wonderful lily growers and hybridizers up here. Not only the prairies. Some super ones in Ont. too.
inanda AKA Ginny
I already have orders in to both of them, too bad I didn't see this sooner as I have already sent the checks..
So, Sue, what did you order? Anything fun?
Quite a wide selection actually. You know how I am about outfacing, but I really did order some upfacing. Almost everyone one of these I couldn't find at an American vendor. Some older varities that seemed to fit in my breeding program.
I've been out cleaning up my iris and now have to figure out what to do with all my thinnings! It is kinda late but, I've also just received my co-op iris, so I have a lot of iris to plant and replant.
See, same problem as me. Time for a sale? My first ever iris sale is Sunday & Monday.
I have a little ad in the paper plus signs out. I don't know if I'll sell any or not. Not many people around here grow iris. Discouraged by springs like THIS last one and the dreaded iris borer.
Big clumps need to thin down and make room for co-op and other new iris arrivals I had forgotten about. Laurie sent me some goodies + my HIPS historic iris order. Lots of digging this
I have a couple of ladies who are interested in some iris, so I'll see if they want anything I have to offer. If I can't sell them or give them away, I'll plant them on the high side of the ditch out in the pasture and the horses will have something to look at while grazing!
I;m hoping that my signs on main roads will attract some bored Labor Day gardeners. Maybe I can start a list of buyers for next year. Got to support my garden addictions & trips some way....
I might put out some signs over the weekend myself. I actually have 4 days off in a row!
Does that mean I'll be home? I doubt it!!!!
My hubby has to work for all 3 days, so I'm free. I have to run daughter Liz up to Cedar Falls to look at apartments (she is moving up to assistant manager at Walmart) Saturday morning. Sunday & Monday will find me diggin in my beds and MAYBE selling some iris?
I wish you a ton of luck and hope you are able to sell all that you have...we need gas money for the next roadtrip!
Ain't that the truth! And money to pay for my lily orders....
I just got my credit card bill, spent a whole lot more than I thought. Good thing I've got all those orders in except for 1. Well at least until that 'other site' opens up for business in Dec or so.
Well, my iris sale did really well. Not much action from the ad in the paper--most people just saw my signs. Amazing how many iris I have left after selling all those roots. Newbie Iris giveaway time....
Hey, Wanda, you'll be proud of me, I got all the iris I got from you planted. Now I just have to plant all the iris I have sitting in the garage that I dug last July.... Planting on little mounds of dirt works quite nicely for iris..
Ok, to keep this legal. I did relocate some Chianti lilies today too. :)
And mine are still sitting in the garage....
