A gorgeous collection Marie! Congratulations!
Erick
Thanks Erick
That black and yellow one is amazing!
Marie, the first one is a hybrid called "Manta" a bat wing hybrid.
Kyle :-)
Thanks Kyle!! :o)
Wouldn't it be such fun to have your yard surrounded by a 12 foot high chain link fence that you could grow tons of different vines on.
I love all 3 of yours.
Kell I do not have a 12 ft chain link fence but I do have a fence so far I have probably 40 + vines growing around my house and cannot stop buying them :o)
That is a gorgeous picture! I have a huge mix, dutchmans pipevine (4varieties) passionvines (13 passion vines) at least 20 clematis, 7 honeysuckles and various others. Now to see if all will survive this winter. And now after seeing your picture I need to find a source for that Distictis 'Rivers" any idea on who carries it online?
No, I don't. It is pretty hardy too but died back for the first time last winter with unusual (as in never before) temps down to 27 for 10 days , a few hours at night. It has come back but still flimsy growth, not the thick ropes I had before after years. I need to thin it out for it is a mess. No flowers yet this year, so I am sad.
Here is another vine worthy of your consideration if you like big gaud. It grows all over here. 1 vine will cover a huge chain link fence in just a year or 2. It is so spectacular though. Worth the effort to keep hacking it back. I have one in a pot I have been training as a standard for a few years. Which is a laugh for it has twined all over and also needs to be hacked back.
Distictis buccinatoria
That is beautiful!! I am off to search now!!
Wow, Kell! GORGEOS!!!!!
I am not having any luck!!
Passiflora arizonica. This one only blooms in the very late afternoon or early evening. It has the sweetest fragrance.

Wow, that is gorgeous Marie! Thanks for sharing the pic.
Erick
Chills I love that bloom.
Marie... I love your bloom as well. I'm also jealous that you can likely leave yours outdoors year round!
How big is the flower on that one?
I read that Capsularis (the one I posted) is supposed to have a vanilla-like fragrance, but I didn't read that until the day after it had bloomed. (there are more buds, but when they'll open I cannot say).

Arizonica is a native passiflora so I am hoping I can leave it in the ground. It does get pretty cold in my part of the valley though. The fragrance of this one is my favorite so far even over incense. Vanilla would top this one though. You will have to let us know how it smells.
Wow, you have some beautiful passifloras Marie.
Sandy
Thanks sandy. If iget any pods on my arizonica I will send you soe. The last one I posted and the pink have not produced any at all.
Nope no luck yet. I saved 2 of the seeds and will try again this fall when things outside in the garden slow down. Congratulations on yours/
Dear Marie & Eclipse, the 1st photo, is seemingly called by 2 different names? I would be curious as it looks like the one I had 3 plants of when I moved into my new home 3yrs ago, but died in the prev. years hard freeze (RARE in las Vegas...to say the least) I saw both Manta and Incense as titles? I would love to relplpace mine, the closest I have found in looking around is 'lavender lady'. Kylie or Marie, can you help with clarification for a guy who misses his masses of green jugle growth, purple flowers and giant bumblebees languishing inthe summer sun please?
Warm Regards,
fernman23 (aka :Darren)
Darren, Just to clarify, the first photo of the purple flower is of INCENSE
The second photo of yellow and black is the MANTA
Chris
Sorry to change the subject, but quick question.
I just happened upon this thread from that last bump. I'm looking for something to cover my chain link fence quickly. I love the Distictis buccinatoria. There weren't any dealers listed in the plant files. Any ideas of where I might could find this vine? Thanks :)
