Hello all,
Can anyone tell me if I should do anything to my variegated ginkgo which has decided to become a leaf-covered pole? It's now 5 feet tall with 100% variegation (tons of leaves) but has not sent out any side branches. It was a foot tall 2 years ago and is a vigorous grower but has issues. Should I snip the top off? If so when? Any help appreciated.
Ginkgo....No branches...???
It'll develop branches in its own good time! All those leaves along the length of the stem are produced on numerous dwarf shoots, each of which retains a bud capable of producing a side branch when the tree feels it needs it. Don't cut the top off, whatever you do. That's the sort of damaging mutilation we usually leave to deer to do.
Resin
Thanks!
