Best Place to Buy

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

Evening All,

I know pink tiger lilies exist, I've seen the pictures, LOL. So why am I having such a difficult time finding them? I popped in to ask your collective opinions where I should look....and truth be told now that I've seen some of the gorgeous pictures on this forum I'm most likely in the market for more than just pink tigers, LOL.

Thanks for any tips,
La

Yep, there are pictures http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/48851/

In a very quick search, they were only found here ( tho maybe not the most highly recommended, they seem to do OK on lily bulbs) http://www.dutchbulbs.com/bulbs/search.do?searchStr=tiger+lilies Perhaps someone will come along and enlighten both of us.

Shenandoah Valley, VA

I got some at Bluestone Perennials last year. They also sell bulbs. I have to say I wasn't impressed. The pink is more of a light, muddy, tannish peach.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

What hart says is true.... these are not a true clear pink. I grew them for several years because I like to try different lilies. John Scheepers carries them.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Look for Tarantella. Quite a good pink tiger - at leat in my garden.

Thanks all of you!

Yep Moby. Almost every hit I got typing in "pink tiger lily" sent me back to Dave's, and I kept thinking "these people had to buy these plants SOMEwhere". LOL

Thanks for the head's up Hart. I saw more than one comment referring to their plant's "muddy color" and you just helped me cross one place off my list.

I am not familiar with John Scheepers pardalinum but I just pulled his sight up and will give it a browse.

Inanda any chance you might remember where you got your Tarantella?

I've had the best luck with John Scheepers, much more than say, any of the other Dutch Bulb Companies.

Granite City, IL

How many are you looking for??? I don't know if I can post here but I do sell on ebay and have for 7 years.

Can't remember where I got it. Years and years ago. Maybe T&T.

If you look at the galleries on the lily company websites you might find one

LMAO @ "Well, we all have to eat, ya know." LOLOLOL!

Thank you all so VERY much. I really appreciate you taking time for a newbie. (Psssst. I've noted that some forums are a tad cliquish and if you're not one of the "regulars" your posts sometimes go unanswered). You've given me some great starting points....a shopping I go!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Oh, we're really not that nice, it's just a guise to assuage our feelings of guilt when we tell our DH's "I didn't buy that much, you ought to see what those people on the lily forum get."

another victim...... check ;)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Lily & iris people here are NOT cliqueish. We just want to be enablers. A huge group of enablers.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I just can't imagine anyone's post on the Lily Forum going unanswered....

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Me neither. Seems we have too much fun chatting....

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Besides, we want to know where your gardens are and what you have so we can send Lilyfan in her bunny suit with her poaching spade in the dead of night to help, um, you, um, to rearrange some of your lilies. ;) Yeah, that's the ticket! LOL *just kidding* It might be Mags daughter instead! LOL

Nobody would be suspicious of a small yellow and white bunny, now would they Ticker?

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Not in the least bit. :)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

I don't always answer posts. If I think it is stuff that you (I mean the poster) should be researching, then I leave it alone. Newbies, that is adiff. matter. We all want to suck you in ya know. We NEED to turn you (the poster) into a lily nut - just like the rest of us. Hee hee. Sometimes it works too.
inanda - feeling tiggerish today

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

My yard is not a welcoming place for rabbits, beware! :*)

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

LOL you guys are a hoot!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Ooo, Inanda's feeling Tiggerish ~ gotta watch out for her some day! lol

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Tiger have been known to eat rabbits. I would think Lilyfan would be more of a Pooka... :) At least, if Inanda was around, a Pooka would be a safer thing to be. :)

Come to think, it might be wise to be a Pooka around Intercessor too!

If you don't know what a Pooka is, go ask Alice, or at least the original Maytag repairman! LOL

Tigger bounces. Don't you guys know your Winnie-Ther-Pooh - named after Winnipeg ya know.

inanda who has to find out what a Pooka is.

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Yes, of course! When inanda is tiggerish, I imagine she is feeling delightfully bouncy, optimistic and maybe just a bit rascally ~ in a sweet way.

The Pooka in question takes the shape of a 6' tall white rabbit. If you've never seen the Jimmy Stewart movie "Harvey" you need to see it sometime. It's a bit silly by todays standards, but sometimes a bit of silliness is good for the soul.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P%C3%BAca

The song White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane is basically about the 60's drug culture and the hypocrisy they perceived with the establishment of the era. Which has nothing to do with poaching lilies, but I just heard the song the other day and it made me think of Harvey the White Rabbit. One thing leads to another (which is a different song).

So basically, if you're seeing 6' tall white rabbits in your back yard, you best be checking the koolaid. Because the ghost Jesse White (the original Maytag repairman) will most likely come after you with a straight jacket and haul you off to the same place he took Elwood P. Dowd.

Or it's Lilyfan in the back yard with her poaching spade. And no, I don't drink koolaid. :)

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

But is her top made out of rubber and her bottom made out of springs?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

So, then, would it be safe to say that you should be even more cautious around 6ft tall bouncy rabbits offering glasses of Koolaid?

And, yes, Tiggers are for bouncing!

North West, OH(Zone 5b)

....and all I did was ask where to buy tiger lilies.

LOL!

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Yes. :)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

It is called a tangent. Whoever thinks we stay on track here??

Ran out of chelated iron this AM. Means another trip to the street of nurseries * -- hmm........ Have been going very near there, every time I go to the border to pick up iris or whatever. Have managed not to go check , not ONCE this summer. Seems like this is a good time to visit.

inanda

* There happen to be 4 or 5 nurseries in a row on the street. Great place to spend many hours.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Inanda, 4 or 5 nurseries in a row... wow I'd be more broke than I already am. :)

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

street of nurseries.....wow....

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I'll be right over.......

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Lala_Jane -- don't know if you're still looking for pink tiger lilies, but I was just avoiding cleaning the kitchen by poring over random mailorder websites and stumbled on this one that seems to fit the bill at Paradise Garden -- http://www.paradisegarden.com/shop/product.php?id=PGB1700&browse=1

I've never ordered anything from them, but they're in the Watchdog 30. If you've checked out the websites recommended above, however, my guess is you've already been tempted to order more lilies than you bargained for.
