not sure what these are.... but the yellow jackets are going nuts trying to get at them

I'm guessing ... are they Giant Willow Aphids?

claypa, unfortunately I've got several different types of aphids in my garden so am used to looking at them (not this one however)

I have black aphids this year, but only on one lily? I can't understand why just the one plant is being picked on.

I agree that your bugs are Giant Willow Aphids Tuberolachnus salignus. We have an entry for these aphids in BugFiles here: http://davesgarden.com/bf/go/1150/
but have no images so far.
