Gene Fox gave much the same advice to llilyfan, Moby and I at NALS last year. He recommended the North side of a structure to prevent spring damage from soil warming and early spring emergence.
I moved a couple of martagons this spring away from the bunnies & dog damage of the back yard to the north corner of my house. I actually got to see them bloom this year!
