I saw this post over on the pet forum, sounds like Laura (4paws) threw out her back really bad and doesn't have anyone around who can help her or take care of the dogs, I thought maybe if someone lives near there maybe they could check on her.

Anyone live near Hoopa?
Hi, was just surfing through the forum and saw this - ecrane, thank you for the concern and taking the time to post this :-)
How nice of you.
:-)
You're welcome! I saw that someone had posted on the pet forum that you were having some problems, and I figured there might be a better chance finding someone who lived near you on this forum instead of on the pets forum (of course I'm not sure if there are any DG'ers that live real near you, seems like most people are either from around the Bay Area or somewhere in SoCal--but it was worth a shot!)
i think i'm the nearest to Laura, about a 1hr drive
and i just now saw this thread also
good to see your OK Laura

Good thought, ecrane. :-) That's something special about lots of people on DG - they extend themselves beyond their immediate universe of obligation. It's the way the world should be, imho, and hope to operate myself.
I'm good. It was a serious wake-up call to be more careful and prepared. I do live alone in the boonies, after all, and my dogs can only help so much. I hadn't thought about that fact much, as it's a relatively new scenario. Tell you what, it was darn scary being completely immobile other than my head and arms, and I finally found a friend who could drop everything and drive 30 miles to pick my medicine off the floor (when I spasmed, I dropped it and couldn't reach it, but my phone was in my pocket) and take care of the dogs (had her fill enough bowls with food for several days). Three days which I don't remember well, and lots of pharmaceuticals later, I could walk every so carefully again, and let me tell you, I've been making sure I'm prepared ever since. Even bought a walker for $4 at the thrift store, should I be able to get to the upright position at all!
I was grateful that I'd steam cleaned the bedroom floor (my house is all tile) a few days before (rare occurance) and had been diligent about dustmopping (also rare) too, because I was stuck on it for several hours. With all these dogs, it would have really increased the misery! I'd have probably suffocated in dog hair! Now the bedroom is fully ready for a breakdown.
I was grateful for having 9kittymom's number on my phone, too. She sure went into action posting for help! Glad she didn't call the police or something. lol. I was so embarrassed about the condition of my house, I wouldn't even consider an ambulance, plus no insurance. Anyway, they couldn't do anything - I knew it was a matter of time and medication...followed by many chiropractic visits.
Dick, you still live a long way away. Do come fishing!
