Somewhat difficult (for me) to tell .. but seems your feller may would fit the bill of being one of the Slug caterpillar moths. > http://bugguide.net/index.php?q=search&keys=Slug+moth&search=Search

I'd taken a look at the Southern Flannel Moth, but {they} don't have those 'tendril-like'' extensions!
