I had my regs: hurricane lily, hawain salmon and elcapatilo all blooming. However, didn't take pics cuz I transplanted 33 hibs from ground to pots. Covered the dirt with stone, so babies are now safe!
Will take pics tomorrow, to show you the brand new hib area.

Ahh, looking forward to seeing more blooms, now that babies are above ground and safe :)

Wow, Cat, you were sure busy today. So glad your babies are safe :-)

Okay guys, I finally gave in and sent an email to Martindale. You are all a bunch of enablers!!!

Robert.... I saw Georgia Thunder this morning and almost bought it. Glad to see a pic of it posted. Does Georgia Thunder have lots of purple and purple shades in it? Can you kind a break down the color s in it more for me. I really like the doubles and purple is a favorite color of mine.

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

I think the Georgia's Thunder was a cross between Georgia Pearl and Thunderhead. There is not alot of purple in it. More shades of lavender with a little pink. Some of the blooms look iridescent pearl at times. Very pretty bloom. For purple doubles go for the Magnifique if you can find one. It is a slow bloomer but worth the wait. You would love it!!!

Thanks Brugie. This is an old pic and it takes forever and a day to bloom. Kudos to everyone that posted. They are all beautiful blooms on this thread, Friday seemed to be a good day. Today on the other hand is not so good for my hibbies. The heat is taking its toll. Buds are dropping from the sky. LOL I have mine protected from deer, not many in the city, just cats and dogs which can be as bad. Ardesia dont worry it will grow back, I would have croaked right there. LOL

I found a few buds on the ground today, also. Our temps aren't high today, only 83, but the humidity must be about 90%. It's very tropical. No relief in sight, either. 90's all week.

I have been to busy really to take any pics of mine, but you have all seen mine already. I think you guys have such special ones. I could look at all your pictures all day.

I think I may break my rule of no more this year because they probably will die over winter and get Georgia's Thunder if I see it for sale. It is so pretty and has my name printed right on it. Even getting to see just a few blooms would be worth the price.

I had to have Black Dragon too, Liz. I finally remembered to ask David to bring it to the Marin Farmer's Market and got it a few weeks ago. It has bloomed and bloomed. I haven't had a chance to take a pic though. Karen's picture of it is so good.

I hope my life calms down some. I am so much busier than I ever was when I worked.

I traded some dahlias for this one in the spring - Lady Baltimore. Is it less common?

Lady Baltimore is a great perennial hibiscus. I lost mine a few years ago and lost Lord Baltimore this year. She is fairly common now. She will be a lot easier to care for than those dahlias you traded for her. LOL!

I know I definately gonan get Georgia Thunder. Gonan wait a week or two though cuz the temps 100F her e now and not sure how it would transport. Today was the first I notice d buds startign to drop on my plants. I got them up under shade trees too, but it unbearaby hto here and no rain for weeks and weeks now here.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

What are the primary reasons for loss?

I still have plenty of dahlias - don't worry.

I wish I knew. I thought maybe this spring, it was caused by the late and hard freeze we had for three days. Maybe it happens when we go into winter with little to no moisture in the ground. We have had about three years of strange weather. I really don't know why it happens. Put something in the ground that you really wouldn't miss and it will grow until the end of time, but something special seems to be what croaks. Good luck with your plant. I hope it multiplies and gives you tons of those great pink blooms.

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

amarantha00 - I know you don't like that Black Dragon at all. You really don't want to keep a plant like that in your backyard. You won't be happy with the outcome of it so I tell you what! Why don't you just pass that one along to me? I'll make sure that someone gives it a good home!! Like ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Ha ha, that's SUCH a beauty ...

San Bernardino, CA(Zone 8b)

LOL, Amanda!!

Grrrrrrr, my dog may be a sissy but I bite ;-)

;) I love it!

ardesia I was told by a local nursery owner that if you have deer problems, get you a bar of soap and put a hole in it, string a peace of string or ribbon through it and hang it on the plant, deer had the smell of soap. I live right in the middle of deer heaven, and haven't had one eat any of my hibiscus yet. I don't have the soap out either but if I would see any signs of one eating on mine I would put it out right away.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Gorgeous Pics! I've seen the soap thing (Irish Spring) work on trees.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Yes Pug, that does work although we have torrential rains here and it melts away quickly. I had gotten complacent because we have a dog now. Normally the deer do not come in his territory; I think this may have been a young one that didn't know any better.
I have sprayed the perimeter with Deer Off. I hate that the hibiscus plant will not bloom again for weeks or months while it makes new branches.

I feel for you, without blooms what is there to look forward too. A good thing this thread is a going.
