White Lily of the Nile Help

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't know if I can post this in this forum or if there is another one that is more appropriate? If so, please tell me and I'll post this over in whichever other forum.

But my problem is that I ordered 4 large (mature) White Lily of the Nile from eBay and when they arrived the leaves were chopped off at the end like daylilies. Will these grow back?

Also, they were suppose to be 4 seperate plants but 3 of them came all together, like 2 of them were spreads from the main one. I seperated these but there are hardly ANY roots. Will these things make it?? There are about 3-4 3 inch long roots on each of these. HELP!!! I'm frustrated.

I've never heard of anybody cutting agapanthus like you do DLs, but maybe it was to save on shipping? These plants are vigorous in my area (I'm not terribly far from you) so my guess is that they will recover fine.

about the clump you received. There's a lot of discussion about clump vs separated. Some people prefer a clump because it is easier to get it established once planted. Others prefer separate plants because they are going to use in separate places in their gardens. It appears your plan was to place these in 4 separate areas. I think they little ones will be OK, you'll just have to watch them a little closer. If I had been the seller, I probably would have sent you the clump also, to cut down on plant trauma. Then let you do your own dividing and immediately plant them. But I probably would have told you it was coming in 1 piece so you'd know what to expect. This may have been a case of miscommunication and not rip off.

this is a lovely and tough plant and I expect you'll be posting "brag pics" soon enough.

Whew ... I'm glad!! I emailed the seller with no response yet so I was a little bit scared. I'm a newbie gardener so you can imagine the crazy paranoia. I appreciate your help! Do you reccomend any special type of care for these like fertilizer or special type of watering?

the above is a good link. But you can also google lily of the nile and do some more research. It's an easy plant. If you want input from others in your area experienced with LofN, I would suggest posting in the TX forum also.

I just stuck mine in a shade area that gets a little bit of morning sun and that was it. The excessive rains probably helped it too. I did not fertilize mine but I do plant with the best quality soil I can afford. Mine are done blooming, you shouldn't expect yours to bloom until next year or maybe even the following year on the smaller divisions.

Neat, thanks!
