DAILY BUTTERFLIES Page 12

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

The other cluster of eggs is just now emerging. I read somewhere on the internet where a person was saying their Polydamas eggs turned dark in the middle right before they hatched, and I think you can really see that in this picture.

And here you can see one is free and will hopefully make his way up to the leaf soon. I'm so excited!

Melanie - OH how cool is that!!!! Congrats! I hope they all thrive and become beautiful butterflies for ya! :-) Great photos, btw!

Thanks! I couldn't help going back out there to take a few more. Here you can see where they hatched and how they climbed onto the leaf.

And here the other cluster was still emerging. They seemed to be holding a conference about where to go next. I think they found a leader!

Wonderful photos, you are getting good at holding that camera!! Thanks for sharing them. Look on the bugfiles link, I bet they need more photos like yours.

I already put a few on there! As the little guys grow I'm sure I'll be adding more. I know how much I was searching for any info on them, so I'm trying to provide it for others out there like me who have tons of questions!

That is incredible!

Congratulations!

The second batch has all hatched and there were nine so I have a total of 20! I hope they all make it; I'd love to have 20 Polydamus flying around the neighborhood.

Congrats on the polydamas!!! I'm still waiting for one of those butterflies to find my aristolochias. Hope this fall will be the season.

Thanks everyone! I just checked on all my cats and my third Gulf Frit is making his chrysallis. The first batch of Polydamas cats have started to spread out, but the other group was still clustered together.

I have a question - since my firstGulf Frit should be eclosing in the next few days, and I work all day, I was wondering when it would be best to release him. Would 5:00 pm be ok, or would it be better to do it around 7:00 am before I leave? As long as his wings are dry and he's flying ok, does it matter?

Hmmm, this guy is on my bloodgood maple.

edited to say: It resembles some kind of thing called a prominant, but mine has a horn thing. Well at least I am getting better at spotting them. LOL

My Monarch eggs and cats (mostly cats) count at about 2 5 now. Not counting 3 Queen cats. DH asked me today when I'm going to stop looking. Guess he doesn't really think I can keep them fed later on when the cats get bigger. Well...I can't stop now!

Finally got good pictures of the Viceroy! They do like to fly around later than other butterflies, don't they?

Great Viceroy pics Lily! I don't see those much here. Thank you!

Linda what a cutie! I had some that size last Saturday, and now, only 5 days later, some are almost 2" and about ready to pupate. There are eggs hatching out there now on the plants. I will gather them as soon as I can see them, lol.

What an interresting cat that is Chris~

With this thread filled I made a new Daily (page 13).

Here is one of the females in the batch that eclosed this morning.. More about that in the new thread continuing here> http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/758535/
