Good one Janet,
I have created an entry for it here: http://davesgarden.com/bf/go/4844/
to introduce the family,

Ken

I got more pics today, I wonder if I have a male and a female as they look slightly different. It's difficult to tell by the eyes as they are so thin, only about 1/2" or less long so you can see how narrow they are.

The one above crawled onto my finger while I was trying to hold the leaf to get some pics, it was windy.

This is the same one to show the tail end, next pic I'll show a similar angle with the second one.

Today's pic, the second one,

I think the first one is a female as it has a tail end like the pic on the diptera.info site.

The second has a more club-like tail, which I would have thought a female, but it's different to the first. The legs also look to be more black and yellow on the second, but they appear to be the same species.

Another of the second one, I'm off to bed now so will upload the pics tomorrow when I decide which to use as I have a few.

I found there is only one Genus and species of this here, according to the delta-intkey site.

Note the scale for 2mm.

The leg description is yellowish brown, that fits both I guess, the first one may be reflecting light.

Although the diptera.info site described theirs as a female I'm not so sure.

This is the back view of the first one, I don't know if anything can be determined by the eyes on my pics, at less than 2mm wide it's a wonder I got these!

Back view of the second one, which I think looks more like the female.

I have added pics of both flies, thanks Ken. I called them Fly1 and Fly 2, with a few angles of each. As this is a rare fly we may not get any more!

Thanks Janet, I have used one of your images to illustrate the family in the index,

Ken
