Wow I still cannot believe that crest! They say silkies should have one as wide as long or wider but that is taking to an extreme!
I have a couple silkies, red, that I got from Ideal that aren't show quality, my definite roo, Red is I think beautiful, he is dark red with a few dark tail feathers, his crest and waddles are RED and I mean RED and his ear circle things are like beautiful opals. I don't want to keep him because I want to keep as close to show quality as I can, but he is such a character, he's the first one running out of coop when I open the door and the last or second to last in at night, I might just have to keep him! Can you have roosters neutered? Or is that cruel? Maybe I will set up a second house next year (don't tell my husband!) just for pets....hmmmmm I think I just might
I think rooster neutering is called caponizing.... it sounds intensive. I think you should definitely have "pets"...lol. I only wanted one or two silkie hens to "incubate" eggs for me, yeah right.
Now I have like 20 ( I don't count anymore). But I tell myself the little guys don't count as a full chicken cuz they are too small so it's ok to have that many of one kind *rolls eyes*
