reason for yellow leaves?

Saint James, MO

I'm growing my first morning glory vine this year. It really took off but has developed yellow leaves toward the bottom. Does anyone know why? Thanks! --Trish

I think everybody's vines do that. Mine sure do.

I've had it happen quite often too. It can be any number of things...too much water, not enough water, something in the soil it doesn't like, sometimes even too much sun!! As long as it has new growth and it doesn't loose all it's leaves just pick them of at the stem. It will grow new ones.

What one are you growing? ☺

Mine are "Heavenly Blue". They are just about to bloom! It's really hot here (mid-Missouri) right now and very dry. They are also growing on cattle wire in full, all day sun,so I think the heat is bothering them. I planted them in composted cow manure from our pasture. Afterwards, I thought that might be too much nitrogen. Maybe this is what is making the lower leaves yellow. I also read that well-water may tie up the iron in the soil somehow and the plant can't use it. But they're growing so I won't worry too much about it. Thanks for your help! -Trish

Interesting info about well water, Trish. I use well water on mine and wonder if that is why some of my other still plants aren't blooming yet. Interesting theory. :-)
