Sarcophaga carnaria?

It certainly looks very close, but there are other flies which are confusingly similar.

The thing to look for is the very large feet, they are noticably large like waders. The wing veination does look to match but that may be so for other Sarcophaga species, I'm not sufficiently expert enough to go on that for this fly.

The abdomen does vary in looks according to how the light falls on it, with a noticeable chequered pattern which yours has, but so do others. I have quite a few which I find myself wondering about, but when I see S. carnea there is no doubt, it's huge!

SIZE is one of the most important factors, this is huge and although others may appear large this one hits you in the eye. It's at least 1/2" long or longer, the male and female are usually different sizes.

Thanks for the info!
This one is also pretty large but doesn't seem to have the "large feet" :)
