2 questions for you experts

deb, you asked me to update you early in the thread sooo...
the curcuma are beautiful. at leat 2 flowers per plant. some have 3...others 4 including ones just forming. i filled in the space behind the w. robusta w/ kopper king hibiscus and moy grande hibiscus the moy grande is on the other side of the erythrina herbacea, which i plan to move in the winter, once i see if it will die back or keep its wood
PS the infloresences (sp?) tend to droop or fall over after rain gets caught in the cups. i have to empty the flowers, and then stake them up

Diehrd: It looks great! That bed is coming along really nicely.
My C. Alimatifolia are still in a big pot and blooming their little heads off. Gonna wait til next year I think to put them in the ground, though. I'll be interested to see how yours do over the winter. I'd love to have a big row of them. :)

it may not be too long before you can do that. for me at least, they are growing real fast. thanks for the compliment... my whole summer has gone into the yard since we have lik, tons of space and no plants.... still got about 2/3 of the backyard to do. do you have any brugs?

No brugs. I just admire everyone else's. :)

This is, to me, the coolest thing about the C. alimatifolia. The two flowers. There are these little purple and white flowers around the bottom....

And the big - totally different - pink flower. Maybe there are other gingers that do this - have two totally diff blossoms on the same plant - but this is the first one I've seen. Love it.

the purple and white ones are the true flower. the pink part is bracts... the same as the green things holding the flower, but larger and... well, pink! i like that too, plus the tropicalness of the infloresence

Diehrd: Thanks for the explanation. It makes sense, now that you've explained it. :)
