Look familiar to anyone?

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Not sure what I bought, but loved the variegation. Any ideas on what it is. (I'm pretty sure it's hoya related)

and just because... this is the only hoya I have about to bloom at the moment. H. montana. Who seems to like our 90º+ temps.

BC, I can't seem to get the pictures to enlarge, but they definately look like interesting plants! Congratulations on your find, and your blooming montana.

They are both very pretty plants BC. Is it possible the first plant a dischidia? Where did you find it ?

Very possible Rose, that was my other contender, I can't remember where I got it, but it was at one of the local nurseries - no tags of course. Grrrrr.

Don't dischidia have ant pockets?

It's gorgeous BC. No not all dischidia have ant pockets. I have few that doesn't .

Try this link http://www.cutebassethounds.com/images/noid%20hoya3.jpg for those who cannot enlarge, I just tossed it up on my web page.

I can't really see as I'm on my BB, but take a look at the exotic angels set in my flickr and see if it matches the dischidia. Pretty sure I posted pic of it. (but that will only get you the EA tag, which may be wrong)

Just found this post while doing a google search. Identical plant to Awanda's http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=3105296

So it's either D. oiantha or D. vidalii?

Key, it's not from EA - we don't get their plants readily here, but there is one chain nursery starting to carry a few things from them. I'm beginning to think I may have purchased this in Sacramento.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

It also looks like this http://www.glasshouseworks.com/images6/dischidiabenghalensevariegata.jpg
(they are calling it DISCHIDIA ALBIDA ALBO-MARGINATA ) glasshouseworks.com

I think you have the variegated form of D. oiantha. It is a great dischidia and NOT easy to find!!! Congratulations!!!

Hi stranger!!!
Completely agree it's a Dischidia, as I have one identical to it at home, mounted on treefern slab.
I don't recall the ID of mine, it may be the one Carol believes it to be. (Ü)

A very slow grower that really loves heat and humidity.....the only time mine grew even an inch was last year when it was outdoors during the summer.
No blooms on mine yet, and I've had it 2 years!

Do you have a picture of the whole plant? I'd love to see it. I have seen pictures of your plant before, and liked it enough to write the name down so that I would not forget it, but I forget where I wrote it down! I haven't had any luck with the discidias I have bought, they had both been waaay overwatered before I got them. I have a small one of "ruscifolia" (??) that I started as a cutting, but the one I really like, D. nummularioides, died back on me pretty quick. This one reminds me somewhat of that one.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

D. nummularoides has a totally different leaf...almost round.

Medford, NJ

oh I didn't catch the second bigger picture, for some reason when I click on them, they are not enlarging. The nummularioides I had was the same varigation, same coloring, same thick leaves,

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

I'll get a photo a bit later, Bhavana.

Waving wildly 'HIYA Nan!!!, hug hug!' - Well, it's a happy camper, I have it hung on the fence where I water it every other day or so and it's growing like a weed. So far so good. I think I paid about $9 or $12, but not more than that. Wish I could recall where I found it.

Thanks for the id confirmation Carol, writing out a tag as we speak =º)

Ya know...my bad. It is H. numularoides and D. numularia. Sorry.

here's the shot of the whole plant (6" pot)

and no, I surely cannot take credit for growing this beauty, but I can show the new growth since I've had it for the last month or so.

and since I've got ya, here's H. keysii (or so the tag said) - this poor pathetic thing was for sale at Longs Drugstore in Oakland. It was so chlorotic and yellow when I found it, but being the plant junkie that I am, I figured I couldn't pass up the chance to nurse yet one more plant back to health, so I put the poor thing in my cart and drug it home. Kell was shaking her head at me wondering what in the world would I want with this thing! It had clearly been treated like a cacti with a lot of sun (and some sun burn) and not much water.

Well, a bit of miracle grow and about three months later and here she is. Green, happy and everything to the left of the red marks is new growth (8" pot). I water it everyday (which it needs in our dry heat) and so far it's happy as a clam. I didn't repot it but it might need some fresh soil later. (gotta love Miracle grow!!)

I might just get this hoya thing figured out! The few dozen I have growing inside are just sitting there. Lumps on logs!

Hoyas in the drugstore, unbelievable! Thanks for the bigger picture, what a beautiful plant - but I think the one I saw had much smaller leaves, it is hard to tell from pictures sometimes. That keysii looks very healthy as well!

Someday when I have the space, I would like to get a few more dischidia.

Northern California, CA(Zone 9a)

Well this Longs is unique in that their garden center rivals some nurseries around here!

Thanks again all, we'll mark this ID as solved!

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

HI....word of caution: you have probably read that lots of the sellers to the big box stores put wetting crystals in their pots. Dischidias, especially, like their roots with alot of air around them....I grow that dischidia on tree fern logs and wet them down daily...but they have NO SOIL nor moss. Don't keep them too wet. You have a lovely plant and it would be a crime to lose it....

On the other hand, you could send it to me.....:>)))))

Medford, NJ

I think that the over wetness is the reason I lost mine, and since I can't seem to find them before they weigh 50 lbs due to oversoaked rootballs, I just don't buy them anymore. I tried repotting and it was a mess, the darn thing fell apart, it seemed at least half of the cuttings in the pot were barely even rooted, and it was too late anyway. I do have some cuttings growing though, slowly.

The place we went on our hoya trip, Meadowbrook, had a nice selection of them mounted, but I really can't have anything like that here, the only time it would do well are the summer months, the rest of the year it would suffer thru gas heat and low light.
