What lilies grow well in zone 4B?

McGregor, IA(Zone 4b)

I have several nice patches of LA lilies, but what else can I plant here? I would like to plant lilies like Scheherazade (sp?) and Black Beauty. Some catalogs label them zone 3 or 4, others zone 5. Any northern Iowa growers in this forum?

Ripon, WI(Zone 4a)

Hi Caitlin, I'm not from Iowa, but I'm a zone 4b in Wisconsin and I am able to grown any lily here, Scheherazade and Black Beauty too. I know you're supposed to mulch them in the winter here, especially the orientals, but I never do and they are just fine.

By the way, I lived in Marquette, IA for about a year (many moons ago)....

You can grow just about anything you desire, as we live in the middle of the growing range. Consider joining a lily society to take advantage their knowledge, sales of lesser known varieties and great prices. I belong to Iowa's but it might be closer for you to join Wisconsin. http://www.irls.org/

Caitlinsgarden, it's good to hear from you. I hope you weren't effected by the floods and things are fine with you.

We live up on a ridge, so we didn't have the mud slides and flooding they did in town. Just a wet basement and a leak in the garage room exactly over the dry buckets of daffodils and tulips awaiting fall planting....Plus lots of nice green grass for the cows to munch on. I think we got 10 " in 24 hours - and it rained again last night. You wouldn't believe how quickly the weeds have taken advantage of the wet ground!

Oh yes I would. :) I'm so glad you and yours are safe and ok. :) I feel just horrible for the other poor folks in McGregor., That had to be scary.
