Milkweed seed germination and passifloras

Port Saint Lucie, FL(Zone 9b)

For the past few years I just plant seeds in jiffy pots and wait to see a plant while some of the plants never do anything. For the past 2 weeks i have been soaking my milkweed seeds. I am testing out that float/sink theory. What I have noticed is the milkwwed seeds that are floating have after 2 days or so popped open with growth. As they pop, I plant them into a jiffy pot. Then a wait another day or so and do the same thing again. After the 2 weeks, I have noticed the ones that are on the bottom are pretty flat with no signs of life. I started another batch today. Has anyone tried this method with germination? Does this work with other types of seeds? I know some people have said they soak theor passionflower seed sin passionflower juice and then plant them but how long do you soak or do you wait until a growth appears? What should I do?

We soak our daylily seeds in plain tap water before planting. They usually start germinating within one week. Normally after 3 weeks if they haven't germinated they probably won't. After planting germinated seeds in the jiffy pots we had 3 small green sprouts after just another week. The jiffy pots seem to really give them what they need to get started, plus then they don't get buried down in the potting soil when they get watered. We put them in either styrofoam cups or 3-4" plastic pots with miracle grow around them as they grew so fast.

I am going to try this method with some of my other seeds after we get the daylilies on their way. Some of the other seeds I have say soak overnight. Some say use plain tap water, some specify boiling water.

Have you ever tried the wet paper towel in a plastic bag method? I thought I would give that a try also. There are some other threads that tell about that in detail.
Good Luck!
