how long do we keep the bubles...

how long do the bublets have to stay on the stem before picking them and sending to people that want some? That is on a tiger Lily.

I let mine get as large as they are going to get, they are normally about double the size of a Canna seed...if that helps...lol and it may be different for different lilies....so hopefully someone else will come along with a better answer...lol BUT I have 100% germination and nice plants from all I have planted...even if I can't explain what I did...lol

Thanks for the reply Janet. Thats kinda what I was thinking. But I wanted them to grow for the people who wanted them You know what I mean? The only ones Ive ever "planted" are the ones that fell off the plant its self. Just by accident. Well really I had no idea for the longest time that those were actually plant "seeds". Thanks Ronna

I ended up with a lily bulbil off a plant. Can someone tell me what I need to do now? Do I put it in water to get it to root? Do I just stick it in dirt? It looks like it's doing something because the pointy end has a little white tip. Is that a root? (Seems upside down, if so) Thanks!

I just place it in a pot of dirt, and keep it damp....not soggy, mine root easily. I plant mine about as deep as the bulbil is deep, so nornally not deeper than half an inch or so....hope that helps. Remember they normall just fall on the ground and mine will root on their own...you may have some lying around the base of your plant, if you check...more to plant!

Mine usually have a little white root start and a tiny leaf already on them when I pluck them. I just pot them up like Janet said and let them go. I made the mistake of leaving a tray outside and they were caught in a wild downpour during a storm. I recoved a few and replanted in the garden but I lost quite a few. I just wish that they weren't NOID asiatics. One is dark red, I really think that it is Stones. I planted them so long ago but that is the only red I've ever purchased. The other is a random saturated orange. I didn't even mark the stems so I don't know which is which so I'll have to gather the bulbils separately and make sure to keep them apart:LOL:

I'm excited! This is the first bulbil I've ever had-until DG I didn't even know what they were. This is also only my second year having lilies. It came from someone else's lily plant. I was showing off some of my new DG-knowledge about lilies when the bulbil came off, so I kept it. I've got it sitting in the plastic lid of a waterbottle with about one raindrop's worth of water. I'm trying to figure out where to plant it so I'll remember it's there. It now has a little white sprout out the pointy end and it looks like the rounded end is getting ready to split open so maybe soon I'll have roots, too! Thanks for the growing tips! I'm relieved it's so easy.
