forsythia needs moving

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I have two forsythias that need to be moved.. can I do it this time of year? I really cannot wait for the Fall when I know it would be the best... I have to remove them now just please let me know if they need composted or if they they can be moved.

Especially in a hot climate like TX I wouldn't try moving them now, but if it's a choice between throw them out completely or try moving them now, then I guess you might as well try to transplant them, the worst thing that happens is they end up on the compost pile anyway and then you've wasted some time/effort, but there's always a chance they'll make it.

Thanks - that is what I figured... just a hope they might be one of the few plants that just love the heat and can be moved in the heat...

I agree with ecrane. How big are they? How old? If they are mature, I'd give them a severe haircut, thin them out. Make sure to water water water. and use a transplanter fertilizer. Good Luck.

They are three years.. but they came from Arbor Day for free so they started out twigs so nothing lost really just hate to lose plants.

Just remember that when you dig them, there won't be as much roots to support the amount of foliage, so give them a trim and they should be ok.

Ok, dug them out this morning - the roots are so small.. ao I cut way back.. there are several branches with roots so I but them in the cutting room. So if I lose the mamas I should still have the babies.

Thanks - loads of water. I planted them with some oleanders that I set out today. I have never had issues with oleanders in the heat with water so I will keep fingers crossed.
