It looks like my spirea magic carpet (I think) is beginning to form new blooms. Should I deadhead the old blooms?
Will spirea rebloom?
I have a couple different cultivars and I've found if I deadhead them they'll keep blooming for a really long time. I've never tried not deadheading them, so I'm not sure if they would have kept blooming on their own anyway or if it was the deadheading that encouraged them.
I think deadheading them makes them look cleaner so the new flws. are more appreciated. Otherwise the old flowers look dry and dead. Just my opinion.
Thanks, that was my thought too. Next year I will cut them all off when they start to go dry.
Just a pair of hand hedge trimmers should do it.
